I use mac janitor (free on versiontracker), cleans most crap from the system (old program logs / internet cache etc...)

Cocktail is superb and does alot more cleaning and modifying but can only be used 10 times before paying for it.

    A must have is Applejack
A small utility than runs from the single user boot (apple+s pressed at boot).
You'll see an all text screen similar to old DOS times.
In there, type "applejack auto restart" and it will check the HD, repair permissions, clean caches and then restart automaticly.
Great little app to fix almost any problem (specially handy when that problem won't let you start with your user account)

I know this thread is a bit old but the question is pretty much the same:

Looking for Privacy Software and an anti -[virus/spyware/etc] package both for OSX 10.4.11
    Thanks

    Private browsing on Safari?

/edit: Not much use retrospectively I think though.
