Alrite guys, I'm heading to vegas for a week on tuesday!

I know some of you have been before and the review of the places online dont seem great.

So can you recommend a poker room or even other things to do while i'm there.

I'm taking about $2000-3000 for poker.
So was looking to start off with 1/2 NL and move up to 2/4 etc. or higher till I feel comfortable.

    Cheers

For cash games the MGM is great. It's a really swanky hotel so the small cash games are full of rich tourists who don't have a clue and don't care if they lose money. Stick to the $1-$2 at the beginning and if you start making cash move up to $2-$5, but beware there is a huge difference in standards between these two levels. For tourneys definitely play the Bellagio $500 fo which starts at 2pm every day, it's $1000 on Fridays and Saturdays. The structure is great although you don't start with many chips so there's not much room to mess around. Just play tight at the beginning and try to get a double up, then you can start playing. Binions also runs decent nightly tournaments. Have a look online for nightly poker tournament schedules, there's a load of tournaments on everyday in that town. At the weekend the buy ins tend be alot higher but they run satellites. I think Binions runs a weekly $500 fo on Fridays (maybe Sundays) not entirely sure. Check it out anyway, it's supposed to be very good. Best of luck.

    Hi Cod,

I'm just back from Vegas last week and that was my 2nd visit, love the place. It really depends which hotel your staying in. I was staying in Treasure Island, so I played in the Aladdin all week. They always have a 1/2 game going and a 3/6 limited game, with the max buy in been 200. They also run a 2/5 game on the weekends when it gets busy.

They also run 3 tourments a day and they seem to be good value, just rebuy your additional chips early and you'll be fine and the standard was ok. Its has a local crowd and a tourist crowd.

There also the Mirage and MGM which have good poker rooms. If you want some real action the Bellagio is the best, max buy into the games is 500 for the 1/2 games, but its very tight and a good standard. The Friday tourment in the Aladdin at 12 is one of the best tourments over there.

Also, the Bellagio as a 500 tourment on the wed and a 1000 tourment on the Friday.

I went with 1k and came back with 2k, mostly won big amounts at nite time and loss it during the day. Still cant figure that out.

Went to a few shows, but nothing really any good. I believe "We will Rock you", Queen band or something is very good and theres a hypnoist in one of the hotels, which is the best show in town. cant spell that word.

check this following link for poker rooms and tourments:

During the day, best thing about Vegas is the shopping. Big discount stores where you can save up to 70% on most stuff. Also, do the tours to Hover Dam, Death Valley etc. Best way to do this is to hire a car as driving is very easy.

Treasure Island as a great free show at 8:30 each night outside the hotel, the Mirage as the volcano's, which I would give a miss and the Fountains at the Bellagio are brilliant. Also free.

Eating is easy, the buffet lunch and dinners are great value and most other places are ok, but can be a bit expensive.

The alladin tournaments have a 35% odd rake avoid at all costs

I liked the cash games in the Wynn and Ballys and Binions and the Nugget are definitely worth a trip downtown, Fremont St is far nicer than the strip

Bohsman, your talking rubbish, there last week, its a 10% rake, max $4 per hand and $1 per jackpot, so once the pot is over $40 the max rake is $4. And they dont even take a rake if there's less than 5 players playing.

You must have not played there.

I would avoid Wynn at all costs, there's a lot of bad stories about it at the moment and the regulars dont seem to trust the setup. Never played there do.

I think Bohsman is talking about tourneys. And your talking about cash games.

I've heard good things about their cash games and thats what I'll mostly be playing. But if your in a $100 FO and only $65 of it goes to the prize money thats badddd

they charge a reg fee for all there tourments and all the money goes to the prize pool. A lot of locals play there tourments.

i think the crucial mistake that you made here was not actually reading oscar's post. He was referring to the rake in tournaments. It's facetious to tell him he must not have played there, he obviously has.

Bohsman definitely played there, I remember him paying me back cash he owed me in aladdin chips which I think I still have! Knew I'd never get to cash them in! I'd say he's right about the rake too, I was told by a load of people to avoid the tournaments, they're just for tourists. They may have changed it since July though.

Ok myself and Ocallagh went to the tournament, It was a 50 FO but for $10extra you could get 50% more chips. The pool went loike this: 43+7+10 (the ten did not go into the prizepool) It was a Freezeout but if you got knocked out in the first hour you could reregister and pay another $60 so if 43+17 is good value fair enough
