Im downloading a 300mb video using bittorrent, its downloading at about 0-2kbps. Supposedly there is a way to improve this speed by configuring more ports or something, ive been followin these instructions but they dont work.

    anyone know a better way?

What broadband provider are you with?

You need to configure your NAT settings to allow traffic on the ports you want to use for bittorrent. The lights in the program should turn green when ports are working correctly.

This link should prove useful if you're using BT:

    http://testic.demon.co.uk/slsk-howto/

Zyxel Prestige is down the bottom.

Ports for BT are 6881-6999 though some trackers have those ports blacklisted. I use ports 49152-49162. You only need a range of ten ports open.

    Hope that helps.

Not any more. All the major BT clients only use one port these days. Any guide that tells you to open more is most likely out of date.

It depends on the client; use Azureus and you only need to open 1 port.

Actually Bit Tornado I'm not sure of. Last I heard they were planning to move to a single port system, but that was about a year ago. Don't know anyone who's been using it lately. The latest versions of Azureus, ABC, BitTorrent, BitCommet and BitLord all use a single port now.

"Zyxel Prestige" - thats a horrible, horrible, device - I had the same issues, got me a netgear wireless/router instead, worked a dream.

    *note:
the Zyxel router is too finickety to configure properly, it wouldnt let me open/close ports easily or at all if I recall

Thats hilarious. The Zyxel Prestige is one of the easiest routers to configure for port forwarding. Just log into the router, select NAT settings and Bobs your uncle
