    Hi All,

Maybe someone here might know ?
A friend of mine will soon need to be travelling from Blanchardstown to Dundrum by public transport

I was wondering which would be the quickest way ? Get a bus into city and then Luas out ? Or is there any other way ? Like say get bus to Square then luas out to Dundrum ? I haven't a clue about that area so cannot help them :(
So if anyone has any other alternatives could you please post them ;)

    TIA

    Ciarán

It will heavily depend on whereabouts in Blanch the journey is from. If it's near the village or Coolmine or Clonsilla stations then I'll bet the train to Pearse (c.25 mins from Blanchardstown & Castleknock station) then c.15 min walk t Luas at the green and then c.15 mins to Dundrum on the Luas. At least using the foot/train/tram combo will result in pretty reliable journey times, as opposed to the bus. Forget about the 76A to Tallaght. It takes an eternity to get as far as Ballyfermot!

Unfortunately, the quickest way is to travel through City Centre. Bus from Blanchardstown - Route 38/A/B to O'Connell Street and 39/A/B or 70 to College Green. Once in City Centre you have two options, either walk to Stephens Green to board the Luas, frequency every 7 - 10 minutes and journey will take about 20 minutes. You can also travel by bus, this is best done from the O'Connell Street stop where you have a choice of the 14/A and 48A or from the stop in Townsend Street, where there is a choice of the 44/C or 48A.

Some things to note, the Townsend Street stop is close to the terminus for the 38/39/70 group of routes so there won't be much walking if it is raining. The 39B travels past Stephens Green so it would be handy for linking with Luas.

If for some reason you don't want to travel via City Centre, you can travel from Blanchardstown to Tallaght via the 76A and then from Tallaght to Dundrum on the 75, but be warned, this could take 3 hours or longer as these buses travel through many bottlenecks and their frequency is quite poor.

For timetables on any of the above routes, try www.dublinbus.ie and www.luas.ie for details on tickets etc.

    Another option is as follows.

Train Coolmine or Castleknock to Blackrock or Dun-Laoghaire (a change of train MAY be required at Connolly or Pearse, some trains operate through from Maynooth to Bray in the morning and evening periods).

From Blackrock there is the 18 bus for Rialto which skims Dundrum, comes down the Dundrum Road and turns right at the Luas bridge. Journey time approx 30-40 mins.

From Dun-Laoghaire get the 75 bus for Tallaght which goes through Dundrum town centre. Journey time approx 30-40 mins.

For train and bus times look at www.irishrail.ie and www.dublinbus.ie

Thank you all for suggestions i wil print them off and give them to my friend. I like the train into Pearse and then going to St Stephens for Luas. Looks easiest and quickest but will soon find out. ;)

Thank you all again much appreciated :)

I think you mean Route 17 from Blackrock. Route 18 runs from Sandymount.

The 44/c and 48a go right past the entrance to Pearse Station, as your friend is heading to/from Dundrum against the peak traffic the bus would probably be as quick as the tram.

    Where in Blanchardstown?

    Where in Dundrum?

You could get the metro from Blanch to Finglas and then out to Dundrum. Alternatively change to Luas at Broadstone. Ooops, they haven't built any of that yet.

There is a 39x in the morning that would leave you at Donnybrook .. walk 30 mins.
