Galecon 2005 is being held this weekend in Clontarf Castle. It features 3 days of magic the gathering events. the website is http://www.gaelcon.com/gaelcon2005/index2.php?id=ccgs.php

You'll notice that the info about the events is rather vague. i've emailed the ccg organiser for further details but have gotten no reply as of yet. according to what ive heard, there will be a sealed Two Headed Giant event on the saturday morning, but am not 100% sure of the details as to how the rounds will be run. It sounds like a lot of fun to me, and if you plan to enter you should read the DCI rules at

    Hope to see ye there

turns out its going to be a very loosely-held tournament. basically you get your product, register your deck and can then play anyone you want over the course of the weekend and report your win to the play area. at the end, total scores will be tallied and prizes given out. sounds like fun to me.

Well it turns out that gaelcon wasnt all too great. in total, five people showed up for the sealed league. the upside of this was that i beat everyone and got first prize (17 boosters, not too shabby, fair play to the gaelcon organisers). the real victory of the weekend were the amazing trades i made (got 2 hypnotic spectres, 2 akutas, pithing needle, sunforger, cutpurse etc). i also got a chance to test my B/g weenie deck (outfitted with Akuta tech) and won every time, finally convincing me that it was indeed a savage deck. a good weekend all in all but i kinda get the feeling it wasnt worth it.

Against such competition you can't be too sure of drawing such conclusions. If you want to test the deck properly get some decent opposition on apprentice. I like using www.magic-league.com.

second prize was around 8 boosters or so. but that might have been because only 1 other person showed up on the last day

They had good decks. i beat many well-built white lightning decks and rock decks. these were the kind of guys who spend their money buying all the best stuff.
