    Hi folks,
This has probably been done before but I wonder can anyone help. I live in Ballinasloe and my internet connection is pathetic (no broadband for at least 6 months) and Eircom don't want to do anything about it and now my pc is fecked so I can't enter the wonderful world of internet poker. What I need to do is buy a new PC or lap top so I can play prefarably in the sitting room where the telly so as to avoid divorce so form of wireless operation maybe (that doesn't cost a fortune i.e 20cent per minute etc) .Can anyone help or direct me to some websites that might be able to help. Thanks.

How about just getting a longer lead from your phoneline until your broadband comes? It will be slower, and you probably wouldnt be able to multitable but other then that it should sort you out in your sitting room until broaband comes.

of course that still leaves you needing a pc or laptop but your going to need those anyway.....kind of a Pre requisite for any internet based activity :p

Pat have you tried Irish Broadband? They do wireless and it is not in the least bit 20c a minute. They stick a dish on the side of your house that connects to the nearest mast (free connection etc) of course you must be in the vicinity of one of their masts. I see they have one in Galway so maybe.....
Then you need a lap top with ethernet card and a wireless router and you may play in the garden if you so desire. I have the above on a business package it rocks!

Hi folks thanks for all the help the reason I mentioned pc or laptop is that I was wondering if there was any other internet friendly devices out there like the PSP or PDA's that can be used for playing poker on.

I have a FWA (fixed wireless access) from eircom, its the only option other than the satilite connections which are expensive. You need to be in the range of the eircom mast, if you live near Ballinasloe town it should not be a problem. it works out at 45 a month for a connection above 256kb/sec. Or you area may have a community FWA scheme. alot of towns in the west of ireland are doing that. Im castlebar by the way.

Irish broadband or some form of wireless broadband are your only option till eircom gets it together.

Careful though, wireless is prone to dropping occasionally which can be a nightmare in games :-(

If you have to buy a PC or laptop I would recommend Dell's Outlet. I'm fussy in that I normally build my own PCs but the Dell Outlet has good deals for a quick solution.

    Is that for unlimited use?
