Only not available to a Sky box because its carrying News Datacom CA info - NDS Videoguard....

Funny, I remember Channel 5 doing something hugely similar on analogue, buggering the signal into only working with a Videocrypt decoder, but card or not... This ensures the average Irish Sky subscriber can't get it.

Right, considering Sky seem to have been able to push Sky Three through from licencing to launch in about 6 weeks, Five have just been given a licence for a "Five.2". Could this FTA mirroring of Five be a test for an FTA channel from Five? Their owners are big fans of FTA/FTV anyway

    Probabily a mistake.

Some RTL channels are FTA and some are pay TV.

The majority are FTA, FTV on Dutch TV, however. Sure, they may operate a few encrypted channels but its clear they know how to embrace FTA arms open - just look at their German offerings.

they have no choice but to embrace it in Germany. they could encrypt but that would leave German viewers with their rivals. uptake of pay tv in Germany is apparently very low

Erm, RTL and ProSiebenSat1 are the reason that pay-TV uptake is low, not the other way around - them being FTA from day one caused it, basically.

    Dear all,
I have tried tuning this in on a Lidl/FTA receiver-with no joy
Is it in the clear again this evening?

I tuned it in on a Lidl box yesterday and it was clear ,I tuned it in on my Sky box nothing (was not expecting anything) but it (9343) is now showing up on other channels with my FTV card

That would be because the FTV card is willing to accept the NDS CA flags saying "UK only", basically. Whereas an FTA box just ignores them :D

Looks like it's now encrypted. :(
