    Hi
I live in Kellys bay apartments, I use a indoor tv for the irish channels and FTV for others.
I would like to test to see if I can get DTT, I would be able to put up a loft Aerial in my attic as I am on the top floor.
If it doesnt work fair enough at least the irish channels will not be snowy.
All my neighbours aerials seem to be pointing at the mourne mountains.
Also on a side not I have blanking panels where it looks like tv points should be.
How do I open these would I need to chase cables through walls are would these already be there.

This is an important point for the area you are in....

Are the aerials horizontally or vertically polarized? (that is, the rods on the aerials)

If the are horizontal, then it appears they are getting reception from the main Divis transmitter, which has DTT (Freeview) at very low power. Even so, I could guess you have a slim chance....

If they are vertical, then those aerials are pointed at a little transponder near Kilkeel, which is popular around North Co. Dublin for reception for analogue UK channels. This tx does not have DTT.

Are most aerials outdoor or loft aerials (I would think, as you can see them, outside :D)

Get back to us with this info, it would be interesting to see what they are pointing at. :)

The aerial is a vertical one there are some horizantal ones in the area as well but they are pointing in the other direction.

    Thanks

If they are horizontal pointing the other way, then they are looking for RTÉ1/RTÉ2/TV3/TG4 from Three Rock in the Dublin Mountains.

So DTT is a non runner, but it might be a cheap way for 4 UK analogue channels.

    What about Wales for DTT?

Llanddona and Moel-y-Parc are really low power for DTT. That would be slimmer than getting it from Divis. Added to that, both those are horizontally polarised, and would be prone to co-channel from Kippure and Three Rock.

    Psygnosis,
You will not be able to receive DTT in Skerries because we get our signal from a transmitter in the Kilkeel area which does not carry the DTT signal.I had a lend of a freeview box belonging to a mate of mine from Rosslare to try it earlier in the year & it would not work. Also if you could receive it the aerial would need to be on the roof because it needs avery clear line of sight to pick the signal up properly.

Digging this up from the dead again.
Looks like 3 rock is providing trial DTT so if I get a aeriel that looks like a arrow and put it pointing a 3 rock should I be able to pick it up?
Would appreciate if some one could give me answer b4 4 O clcok today as Im headin off

These are only tests that went live yesterday, so I would hold off for the time being in getting a DTT box, until we find out what just they intend to do. Just because the 1 year old Matsui Freeview box that I have is displaying the RTÉ broadcast channels right now, doesnt mean that other channels wont be displayed in time. Its too early just yet.

Ok thanks for that I need to get a aeriel for my attic one way or the other would I be better getting one to point at 3rock or clare mount in louth from the charts in the other thread it shows I can recieve from both which would be better looking at freeview in the long run. I am also looking for a freeview box that has a anologue tuner as well and can use VGA connection. I would prefer standalone but if it has to be pci I dont mind 2 much
