Adding a Twin LNB to a Sky Mini Dish

OK, think I was sold a pup.

I want to replace a single LNB on an existing dish with an LNB that will allow me have two seperate feeds.

The one I bought (or rather, was sold) describes itself as a "universal Digital LNB". Looking at my Sky dish, I cannot see how I can simply swap them around - the single LNB has (what google tells me is called) a spigot, mine doesn't.

I wanted a twin LNB that I could just simply swap.

What should I have got, and how much should these cost? Or is there some way I can use the one I was sold by buying a bracket or something?

I think you may have bought a standard LNB, universal does not refer to the dish type but rather frequency coverage. .Sky minidishes are unique in their construction and unfortunately no twin outputs are available at present. What you need is a quad LNB suitable for a sky minidish not a standard 40mm lnb.

I theory you could make a bracket or get the bracket I have off a Sky Quad that I fitted on an ordinary dish.

Postage and packing or call and pick it up.

Problem with that is atrocious signal - a Sky LNB won't miss the bits of the dish that reflect to nothing on a real dish, but a real LNB -will- notice the noise coming off the wall behind the missing bits from the toy dish, err, Minidish.

i put a skyware quad lnb on mine and it came with a minidish adaptor, does really well.

Possibly true if Sky dish has a different F/d to a regular dish. But I have never seen figures to prove this is so. The actual size does not count, it is ratio of distance across dish to distance from dish serface on main axis to LNB horn.

If the F/D is wrong then indeed you will either only pickup part of dish or noise behind dish.

I once thought it was quite different making quote true. But Sky single LNB with peg cut off and Sky Quad LNB with peg bracket unscrewed give virtually identical performance to normal single LNB and dual LNB on an 80cm dish.

I have a adaptor peg for free if you pick up or P&P otherwise to try it.

Thanks for the kind offer, Watty - but at this stage I am not inclined to meddle with a work-around to suit the incorrect product I was sold - especially with my inexperience in the matter!

I actually mentioned a Quad LNB in the shop, but the guy insisted the Twin was what I needed - I'm thinking now that he doesn't stock Quads, so he sold me what he wanted.

Looking on E-bay, I can get the Quad I need for roughly €30 delivered - thats about half what I paid for the Twin LNB. I think I'll take my refund and wait for the Quad to arrive.

    Cheers again everyone.

    .
I have found the same, though I usually use the proper LNB for the dish, 'just in case'.
Last time I was in Maplin I noticed they were selling skyware LNBS (the cylindrical ones with the F connector on the back rather than underneath), as 2 versions- sky dish version, with the peg and screw -secured bracket,
and non-sky dish, same LNB but without peg and bracket.
Strangely the non-sky version was about a fiver more!

Incidentally I have changed quite a few of these LNB's, along with the cable, because of water ingress due to the silly position of the F connection. Unless a perfect seal is made with self-amalgamating tape water will get in.
As we know, not all installers can be a*sed to make a good seal.

Are you sure its a quad for a sky minidish? If you put the link up here I'll confirm that for you. Its a great deal at that price.
