"On Yer Backs"-Showdowns-

Live poker scenario on showdowns im seeing and i'd like clarification on.

Generally i find players very slow to show their hands in live play. Agressive during the hand but timid as kittens at showdowns. Anyway heres the scenario.

Player A is the bettor and Player B the caller on a showdown. The dealer then says "on yer backs" like both players are to turn them over together. Now as the caller i'd like Player A to show his cards to give me a chance to muck without giving the information on what my hand was if i lost. So why doesnt the dealer put more emphasis on getting the bettor to show his hand first?.
The result of a lot of showdowns i see are this
PlayerA bets, Player B calls, showdown, Player A acts all reluctant to show his hand, Player B waits and eventually shows his hand, PlayerA mucks. Now as player B or as a player not in the hand i'd like to see PlayerA's hand for information as he was the last to bet. I dont think its right for the agressor throughout the rounds to be able to wait for the other player to show his cards at the showdown and muck or win and have the caller not only lose the pot but show his hand when he could have mucked.

    Any opinions?

I think there is an actual rule for this.

I think that nearest to the dealer (as per normal playing clockwise) should show their hand first and proceed around the table to any other opponents.

Yep, it drives me bananas. I once won a pot in the Macau against as the last man standing in a showdown. He bets I call. It's a showdown, I wait for him to show his hand....and I wait....and I wait...and he mucks because he knows I can't call with a hand he beats. I win. "What did you have?". "Ehhh 7 high" :D

the ruling is left of the last caller shows first unless someone is all-in where all cards must shown.
i agree with rounders though you should be able to muck your cards after seen that your beaten but i have a sneaking suspicion that the card clubs hate this because of the cheating that could occur although i doubt this rarely happens.

I think if you call, then you're paying to see the other persons cards so he should have to show you 1st.

I think this has come up before. I have a real problem with people mucking their hand at showdown. I know some people think it is bad etiquette but there is valuable information to be had in "paying" to see why some played the way the did. For instance, if some comes in with 4XBB UTG and you call from the button, then betting continues to the showdown, you sure as hell would like to see what type of hand the player opening the betting with (regardless of the actual hands). It can prove very valuable in later rounds.
I can also see why I would not want someone seeing my hand too :D

This is interesting regarding the rules, or lack of.

Is it legal to just muck your hand even if you are meant to show first. IE as Nicky says if you knew that you wouldnt have been called by anything you can beat?

Also can someone clarify whether the order is to the left of the dealer or left of the last caller?

Playing in the fitz in the Monday night 100e a few weeks back Player A raises the river, Player B calls,

Player B showed his hand and it's good. Player A shows one card and threw the other which barley hit the muck, but did touch it.

Player B demanded he was shown the second card and the dealer granted his wish, both players were fitz reg's

Rounders this does my head in, do u try and wait out the other player every hand?, other player reveals, see that yur beat, then muck your cards. This is bad form when dealer says 'On yer backs' he/she means ALL players at teh same time.

I really dont like it when you are at a table and someone does this all the time, thus gaining an advantage over the table by never showing their cards (even after requested to do by dealer)

Anyway theres a rule (in the Fitz)that all players must show their hands in a showdown to avoid possible collusion. passing of chips etc.

Its a rule thats not enforced then.
No i dont wait out the other player every hand im not one for poncing around like that. In fact im usually first to show my hand. But if i call on the final round of betting i expect to see his hand and muck my own if behind after all i paid for the privilege.

And you're bang on in you're reasoning. You paid to see the cards so he must show and give you the chance to muck.
