Seeing the post in the Cable & MMDS forum reminded me that according to the ODTR doc [01/69] South Coast are proposing to use the region around 12GHz to broadcast their regional DTT signals.

They have carried out tests and claim that they will not interfere with Sky Digital who use these frequencies. Any RF engineers out there who could verify whether this can be done without causing interference to satellite?

I guess, technically, it could work. After all, when you consider how many satellites that are up there - and spaced just a few degrees apart, all operating on 12GHz, yet they don't cause any mutual interference. This is due to the shape of the viewer's dish which is able to discriminate between a 'wanted' satellite (such as Astra) and an unwanted adjacent one. The South Coast transmitter would just appear as another 'satellite' in the sky (though obviously close to the horizon) and so shouldn't affect existing signals. There might be some problems with those viewers living very close to one of their transmitters with their equipment being overloaded (mind you, I wouldn't fancy being blasted with 12GHz every day )
Commercially however, I can't see their system working, particularly now that SkyDigital offers BBC and possibly ITV coming soon. South Coast would need to be mad to try and take them on, it doesn't make economic sense. Maybe that's why their web site hasn't been updated in such a long time - their technical people are probably busy installing SkyDigital dishes! :)

You dont know how accurate that is my friend :) I'm living about 10 mins away from the SouthCoast 'HQ'. Practically every house has a likkle minidish on it at this stage and soon mine will have one on it too. They must be either crazy or stupid to be entering into the digital TV market. Maybe they think everyone will be so amazed by their crappy service that they'll instantly rip out their digiboxes and subscribe to southcoast?? I only see myself being interested in them if they provide affordable broadband
