The Irish built on a first innings lead of 161, and were 306-1 at the end of the second day with Bray 169 not out and O'Brien still at the crease on 118.

Chasing Ireland's first innings 350-7 dec, the UAE were bowled out for 189 with Trent Johnston claiming 5-33.

Good to hear, but do you reckon if we win the competition it will do anything for the sport in Ireland?

Cricinfo have good coverage of the tournament here http://uk.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2005/OTHERS/ICC-CONT/

    Amazing win for Ireland.

Picked up the last 7 Kenyan wickets for 52 this morning. Chased down the required 245 for the loss of 4 wickets.

Fair play to Johnston for his declaration. Not many teams ship 400+ in under 90 overs in a 3 day game and go on to win. Great result :D

Fantastic result for Ireland esp the way they did it. I have'nt seen much Irish
TV news in the last few days, so can anyone tell me if the win got much coverage?.

    Sunday Times report
    Ireland revel in glorious first
A display of disciplined and penetrative bowling allied to assured batting won the Intercontinental Cup.

Ireland’s cricketers out-played and out-thought Kenya in Windhoek yesterday to win the ICC Intercontinental Cup for the first time.

After a mammoth effort to dismiss Kenya for 156 in their second innings on a batting wicket, Ireland had to score 245 runs to win on the final day, a tricky enough total but one they passed easily, with six wickets to spare. It is the first important tournament that Ireland’s cricketers have won and, after their qualification in July for the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, this goes down as a great year for Adrian Birrell, the coach, and his team.

John Wright, secretary of the Irish Cricket Union, who also sits on the influential chief executives’ committee of the International Cricket Council, said the victory against a highly rated Kenyan side was another big boost for cricket in Ireland.

“While winning this competition means nothing in terms of qualification for other events or increased finances from the ICC, it will do a lot for the image and status of the Irish game internationally,” he said. “This is a high-profile and prestigious tournament in ICC circles and it will not have gone unnoticed in the corridors of power that Ireland has beaten the best of the non-Test playing nations in a three-day game.”

    Mike.
