Knock today presented its new name and brand, Ireland West Airport Knock, and said it is aiming for 2 million passengers using the airport by 2020.

Managing Director, Liam Scollan, outlined the airport's future strategy up to 2020 which includes establishing over 50 route destinations including connections to all the main regions in the UK and Europe, as well as a range of weekly North American destinations.

The key projection for the newly re-branded Ireland West Airport Knock is that, in 2020, it will connect 2 million passengers annually to and from the region, half of whom will be in-bound tourists from the UK, Europe and North America.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary of the first commercial flights taking off from the airport, Liam Scollan said by the end of this month, the airport will have exceeded this year's target of half a million annual passengers. He added that by 2020, the airport will have served over 20 million passengers, sustained 2,000 jobs and contributed €2 billion in tourism spend to the region.

Mr Scollan said that in order to achieve the 2020 growth targets for the airport Ireland West Airport Knock needs the continued support of key stakeholders such as national and regional government, the tourism agencies, business and industry and the development bodies.

Director of Development, Kevin Heery, said that :'our research has shown us that we are consistently the leading airport associated with the West of Ireland and we hope our new name and logo tells our target markets what we are, where we are located and where we grew from'.
