ITV4 - How to get it?

I see that ITV4 will not be available on SkyDigital until November 7. It will be available on Freeview, which I presume is DTT (through your rooftop aerial), and NTL from November 1st in the UK.
I understand this means should you have only have Sky receiving equipment you will have to wait another week.

Now I am just talking about SkyDigital receiving equipment only, or perhaps should I say Sky badged! ITV4 is going to be available to UK address card holders on EPG 120 from Nov 7th.

Is this how you see it?

Just found out that Freeview is a company name. It uses DTTv and looks like all UK broadcasters except perhaps Channel 5 are shareholdres in Freeview!

i can see it being available through Other Channels for those watching with a Sky box until it launches on the EPG

I haven't setup my Skybox yet to receive ITV4 in 'Other Channels'. I still have RTE1, 2, TV3 and TnaG set up there and still hope!

Interesting to see that from next season RTE and Setanta will share rights to to UEFA's champions leauge. 2006-09. It would seem that TV3 pulled out? The reason I mention it here is UEFA seem to be keen on this Free-to-Air broadcasting of live football. Here in the UK ITV and Sky renewed their contracts but ITV will cover live 2 games on Tuesdays. Some have to be free to subscribers. I suppose this is why ITV4 will have one of the games.

ITV already cover 2 games on Tuesdays using ITV1 and 2

No UEFA are keen on selling rights to a highest bidder and getting a lot of money.

I think they prefer folks to pay to got to match than be at home watching it Free to Air.

The point is thtat ITV4, and all the other ITV can be got on a non-Sky satellite box, which can't use Sky's EPG anyway, so for truely FTA Sat viewers, the EPG is not relevent.

BBC3/CBBC & BBC4/Cbeebies, News24 and BBC radio are not on Irish EPG, easier to get on a non-Sky box. On Irish sub you have to put in a Dummy card (or turn card upside down) while on Sky News Interactive. The EPG reloads (slow) before you can select a UK EPG channel. Or use Other Channels which is awkward or needs a PIN code.

Oddly, on my Panasonic box, I don't need PIN to access Other Channels

I do need a PIN however to access Other Channels, if I choose to block porn channels from EPG, which is a nuisance as blocking the porn gives me quicker access to the other BBC regions.

Yes well some of us like to block the adult channels (Even the names of them embarris the wife) and set the 18pin

Just an update! I finally added ITV4 to my 'Other Channels' on my Sky+ box.

    10.758Ghz
    V
    5/6
    10072

There was nothing on Channel 10072 this afternoon but I just checked it and althought Men and Motors is being shown it displays ITV4's opening schedule for November 1 when you initially select 10072.
It will be interesting to see what will happen on November 1st.

Yes the game is on ITV4.
Our concern is how/or will we receive ITV4. It will be available on Freeview in the UK. That is for sure!

Concerns in Ireland are will it be available to people with SkyDigi boxes. Word has it that ITV goes FTA on November 1st. Some people seem very confident of this here in the satellite forum.
I'm in the UK and I haven't heard anything official to confirm this. ITV4 will be on Freeview and that is as far as it goes at the moment.
There is a test channel on Sky Digital for ITV4 but the question remains, will it be encrypted on November 1st.

    It's wait and see!

ITV are dropping encryption on all channels on satellite this year. This is a fact. Whether or not it will happen on November 1st is anybody's guess, but it's almost certain that they will not launch a new channel encypted, only to drop same encryption a few weeks later. ITV3 launched free-to-air. Men & Motors is free-to-air. ITV4 will be free-to-air.

And if it's not, I'll eat my hat.

Heres the reply I got (I've removed me name!!:p
The fact they're showing the big game may be the reason it's not FTA immediately??

ITV's duty office don't know anything other than what they can check in the papers, basically. They were swearing that Granada Plus wasn't closing down, for instance...

It was confirmed yesterday that ITV4 will be FTA - http://www.media247.co.uk/skydigital/newsarchive/2005/10/itv4_sky_launch.php
So you won't need any card to watch it.

The quote from the spokeswoman was, "The official launch date for ITV4 on Sky is Monday 7th November. Sky is not expected to carry ITV4 from launch."

    Hi All,

Hope its ok to drag out this old thread - but the original title suits my needs exactly so didn't want to re-post.

The thing is; ITV4 seems to be showing a lot of Rugby World Cup matches [The ones ITV1 aren't etc.] so it would be of use to any Rugby fans if this could be added into "Other Channels" on a Sky subscription.

    Any help appreciated.

    Paul

Any word yet if the matches will be on setanta ireland or setanta sports 1??

There are supposed be live Champions League games on Setanta Ireland and Premiership shared between 'Ireland' and '1'.

One thing I noticed and only once, is that the Celtic TV channel was used for a live broadcast weekend September 1 and 2nd. With the Formula 1 and Rugby World Cup the games on at present the football could be on any of the Setanta channels.

Next Saturday it is Chelsea v Blackburn on Setanta 1. No schedule for the following week yet.
