I've been informed that Pat Crowe passed away last night of a heart attack. I dont have any further details then that. Pat was a gas character, he could make everyone at his table laugh their way through a tournament, he was a canny player too and he will be missed.

That is sad. Nice man Pat. Sat beside me most of the last monthly game at the fitz which he split. 52o will never be the same again.

He will be missed by all, even though I didn't know him well he was a character and a half.

I understand he was in his mid forties. I believe he had a heart attack in a swimming pool.

I didnt know Pat beyond poker but he was one of the first people I met in the club and I didn't get on with him at all! I don't think he was too enamoured with me either :) but over time I really grew to like him to the point that I enjoyed having him at my table despite his ability to play and we'd often chat over coffee at break or on trips over to the Gutshot on occasion. A genuinely nice guy.

I heard this sad news last night. Pat was one of my favourite punters during the year and a half that I worked as a dealer in the Fitzwilliam. Some people may remember that he was a dealer there himself when the club first opened up. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by many of the staff there. In his younger days he was an avid Water-Polo player and swimmer. In fact he was also the Irish National Waterpolo Coach (I never would have guessed).

Always honest, always blunt, and always good-spirited is how I'll remember Pat Crowe. I had the pleasure of playing with him, and dealing to him, and it's a pity that the game is losing someone with his attitude at the table. He was only ever argumentative when the rules weren't being implemented properly, or he thought they weren't, never because of how well he was doing: he always had the best interests of the game at heart. I remember once having a blazing argument with Pat when I was tournament director of a tournament that he was playing. We were arguing over some interpretation of the rules. The next day Pat sought me out and very genuinely apologised and admitted he was wrong - I remember thinking that if I'd found out I was wrong about the issue I would have found it very hard to do the same. He was in no way arrogantly proud. He was a genuinely stand-up bloke, and I'll miss him.

That's shocking news, I can only repeat what's been said - Pat was one of the really good eggs in the Fitz; a great character, who would always play hard and fast, but with a genuine class about him that always made him a pleasure both to play against and deal to. He played for all stakes, and loved the game regardless of being up or down.

One of the funniest stories I heard was about a game of pitch and toss behind the Merrion from the 'old' days: the heads were playing for 500 a go, but Pat decided the real money was in the refereeing, and left up more than the rest, having risked none of his own cash.

He will be truly missed, and is a desperate loss to Irish poker.

I'm gutted to hear this; it's very, very sad news. I can only echo what everyone else has said, he was a truly genuine guy, one of the best I've had the pleasure to know at the table, and he will be sorely missed.

    Very sad news.
I remember the week before the Fitz was starting I was at his table during a tournament and he was passing Fitz opening notices around under the table.

The last time I saw his was during the break in the Fitz a few weeks ago. I told him about an embarrassingly horrible bad beat I gave to a young player. He just laughed. As usual he was in good form and chatting to one and all.

We will all miss him. A very good player and a very nice guy. Able to play at the highest level. One of the characters of the Irish poker scene.
