Comp won't recognise digital camera

Hi all, I've been having some difficulty installing and connecting my Canon PowerShot A410 digital camera since I received last week, I would be very grateful if anybody could help me.
I'm trying to install it on Windows 98SE, the computer already has one Canon camera installed before this, and hence the required programs are also installed (Zoombrowser EX, PhotoStitch).
However, I have tried installing these programs again from the provided Solution Disk, for my camera, and each time I attempt to do so I am told that the operation must be halted.
On the other hand, if I connect my camera while in Zoombrowser EX, and go to browse & download images, no camera is recognised even though I have the camera connected by USB cable and in playback mode and powered on.
This has baffled me for seven evenings straight, what am I doing wrong?
    Little help? Please?

try remove all related software, may in safe mode. ( even remove listed usb devices from device managerr in safe mode)
reinstall new cd's, maybe there is an updated driver from their website...

    to get you started

    edit:
disconnect camera while uninstall and reinstall

http://alpha02.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900 (or via here, it'll take you to the same page if you click "driver downloads")

Powershot A410 TWAIN driver for Windows 98 SE

The A410 is only released in the past two months so the old driver for your older camera is unlikely to work with 98SE, which after all is quite a few years old now. Hence the need for the new driver, which will hopefully do the trick.

    Download, install, see what happens

There's a possibility that the install of the new software is having a hissy fit for some reason because you didn't install the older software first (it really should be able to cope with an overwrite but half this freebie stuff doesn't have a good install routine). The TWAIN driver may be the same but try installing it first.

This slightly by-the-by but when I bought my Sony Cybershot it came with a bundle of image/burning software but I had Pixela Imagemixer already installed (for my sisters Fijipix ) and that automaticly springs into life instead which is fine cos it works perfectly well, in fact better than the Sony bundle.

The twain driver you need is proberly this one clicky

    Mike.
