That's a ridiculous question tbh, they're completely different instruments.

ya can't say one is better than the other, I'm a bassist and i believe that drums and bass are the foundation of any good band, guitar is just the sprinkling. but if i had to go bass or guitar i'd go bass.

I'm sorry but that's a bit of a stupid thread. There is no "better" instrument. That said, you can have a band with drums and guitars but a band with drums and a bass guitar lacks something imo.

nah i cant agree with that. just look at Death From Above 1979, there just a prime example of what can be done with bass and guitar, i cant stand listening to music with no bass in it (fecking shìte white stripes) theres no low end, it hurts to listen to it.

My point is, music can survive without bassists. It's slightly harder to do that without a guitarist. How many solo singer songwriters do you see playing a bass?

S'pose, but theres loads of solo bassists. I blame it all on the human ear being more suited to higher frequencys. I'm gonna agree both ways, drum + bass can be just as good as drums + guitar. I think it's fair to say that drums win overall.
