I'm in the market for a replacement for my aging (and frankly, crap) lexmark z35 and I'd like to have the added functionality of a scanner and copier, since the prices are so low.

Now I know these things are greater than the sum of their individual parts, so I'm not expecting miracles from it....basically it'll be getting used for some occasional text printing, DVD/CD covers/labels, some photos maybe and the scanner will be getting used to sacn in old photos and some financial documents.

Price is obviously an element in my choice, but I'd be more interested in a unit that is economical when it comes to replacing ink carts, or better that it will accept refillable carts. I've been looking at thew lower end HP models and was even looking at the lexmark models (non-runners).
Anyone got any specific recommendations and/or a place to buy? It'll likely be in a bricks and mortar shop unless I find a really good price online.
Comments and feedbakc appreciated as ever...

    Anyone?
Most of the online reviews I can find for these are woefully inadequate and I prefer direct input from people on here that tend not to have vested interests...

Howdy. I have an Epson RX425 and it does me fine. Selling for about €145 now in Dixons
Only niggle is that ink carts are'nt common (although i get mine in work dirt cheap from the supplier):D

I know a few people who have various models from the HP PSC (I think it is) range and they all seem pretty good. I know the likes of Argos were stocking them up until recently but I don't know if they still do or not (don't have the current catalogue to hand, I'm afraid) and they seemed reasonably priced for a quite decent quality and speed printer and scanner. Think Argos were doing them for between about €120 and €150 last time I checked. Cartridges aren't too bad either, it seems, and cheaper "refilled" versions are also readily available.

Steer clear of the Lexmark ones, though. Usually tend to be a bit cheaper than the likes of HP or Epson but the cartridges tend to be much more expensive, and often harder to find as well, as my sister found out to her cost........ literally!

i got 1, they are great all round and worth the cheap price. Cartridges are expensive enough though, like all printers i suppose though

I hate multifunction devices, their drivers are never updated, and they're a pain to use due to their one fits all type of software.

They're cheap enough seperately these days, and are much better at the job, I got an epson R800 and perfection scanner 2580 a while ago, and am impressed with both, easy to use, no driver fecking around.

I've been looking at them aswell (for a student relative). Theres a Epson one in PC World for €99 that looks decent. But there must be somewhere better to buy it from.

I asked the exact same question here before and got some decent replies and I ended up choosing the Canon SmartBase MP370. It does exactly what I want it to do and prints great quality when I want it to and is quick etc etc. Also, the replacement cartridges for it are supposidly (I haven't had to get one yet) easy to find and very cheap.

I got mine in an Argos sale for I think it was €145:)

I have a HP PSC 2179 that I bought a while back now and its still perfect..excellent quality printing and scanning, fast enough too and not TOO sore on the cartridges - though I guess it depends how much you'd use it.
