Am building an extension to my house early next year with direct labour and doing work myself.

Have a car at the moment with 7 years no claims but want to buy and insure a toyota dyna pickup (and keep the car) while I am building the ext.
Trailor is not an option really.

    A few q's about this.
    1. can I insure the pickup as private.
    2. do I need to get a second policy
    3. does my no claims stand to me for this type of thing.
    4. any ideas ref insurance companies etc

    thx

I know that at the moment, if you have one car insured and you want to insure another, you can't take out a second policy and use your existing NCB. It is a real pain and probably the reason you don't see more people having more than one car.

You can get specialist insurance in certain cases i,e classic cars and kit cars. They come with reduced policies but also restricted mileage is a part of it.

I have heard of someone being able to switch their insurance between two cars. I am not sure how he works it but that could be an area you could look into. Obviously insurance companies will be reluctant to help you.

Commercial insurance or the likes may work on the pick up and include your NCB.
