    Cannot determine which county council i need to apply to for a parking permit here in Rathgar, think it might be Dun Laoghaire Coco, but am not certain.

    Anyone know which council sorts out parking permits for residants in Rathgar ?

    Dublin City Council Area extends as far as the Dodder.

    You need to be a bona fide resident. Expect to be asked for car insurance at that address, utility / bank statements, etc.

    There are allocation rules based on how much demand there is for the area.

    Plus they have changed the rules last year making it more difficult and more expensive to get a permit for a house that is converted into flats as are many properties in the D6 and D6W areas. If your residence has some off road parking available then you pay €450 for one year. If it's a purpose built apartment block expect to get nothing (this is to stop residents leasing their underground parking space and then applying for a street space for their own car). Get the two year permit if you are on the low rate. You need the following documents:

    - Proof of address ...utility bill, lease, rent book
    - The insurance cert for the vehicle with the address corresponding to where you live in Rathgar
    - Copy of your drivers licence

    I'm sure if you e-mail/call them they will tell you if your street is in the DCC area. Also depending on your street (if its a main road or clearway) you may be allocated parking on a nearby side street.

    Thanks guys, those rates are unreal!, the DunLaoghaire council site only quotes 25 euro per year by comparison!!

    There's a big variance depending on the type of accomodation. You may get it for €45 per year as I do!

    Went there this morning, they have it down as a single unit house so apparently it needs a "survey" before they can tell me what the damage is going to be, but should be the cheaper one as there is no off road parking.

    In a suprising twist the guy behind the counter was extremely nice and said as its not my fault the house hadnt been surveyed that he would give me free visitors permits for the intirim which he said he wasn't supposed to do, which was good of him (they have €1.25 stamped on each one).
    Fair play to him! :)

    House -> maximum 4 permits,
    Flats -> 1 permit each,
    Apartments -> 1 permit each, but only in low demand areas and are costly.

    They are allowed give some free. Once you get your permit, you get an annual amount of free visitors permits included. Visitors permits are meant for repair men, social visitors, etc. Not for giving to your mates for commuter parking.
