Do all satellite receivers have LNB short circuit protection?

Do all satellite receivers have LNB short circuit protection? - just curious

A short circuit could easily happen by inner and outer touching in a badly made up connector,
or someone accidentally connecting the satellite receiver to a UHF aerial which has a DC short (can very easily happen as one comes across many people using ordinary aerial wallplates (i.e. instead of F-connector sockets) for Skydigital in prewired houses.

Someone I know almost did this with their LIDL digital FTA receiver the other day - connected receiver's LNB to UHF aerial as he was using a double wall socket one for aerial, other for satellite - both with the ordinary 'Belling Lee' connectors and accidentally swapped over after moving furniture - but realised mistake before powerup - so I wonder could it have been damaged?

If people have experienced satellite receivers being damaged by this please give a mention here of the type and what the repair involved if possible.

I have many analog RX that blow fuse or get damaged. A "Welltech" from Lidl switches off the LNB suply and displays "hELP" on its 7 seg channel display.

The modern digital ones are supposed to be protected... I wouldn't chance it.

Most non-Sky turn off the LNB power in "Standby"

ALL the sky boxes keep LNB powered in "standby" as they don't actually have a standby, they only turn off RF modulator and SCART etc, to allow automatic SW and key updates.

On similar topic, about 3 yrs ago a "Satellite Finder" meter which I had inline on a Nokia 9600 shorted and took out the tuner power supply, basically wrote off an expensive receiver at the time.

Lesson is dont use cheap satellite meters for signal finding. An IN4148 diode directly shorted the LNB input in the meter and caused me a lot of $$$$ in receiver repairs. The diode cost me 10c!

The Lidl (Comag SL55) digital box does seen to go into some kind of lockup mode if its LNB cable is shorted for anything for more than a split second

When It does it needsto be reset by turning off the switch at the back for a couple of seconds and turning it back on again

Im not sure whether its down to some form of short circuit protection or not biut either way its a bit foolish to be overreliant on such things on the other hand it IS pretty easy to accidently cause momentairy shorts when working with F-connectors

The design of the $ky box has been criticised by enviornmentalists because of the amount of power it uses in standby.

Err.. The Sky box effectively has NO standby..
