Dell Laptop Warranties

I had no luck with a reply on the computers forum so I thought that I would post here instead:
I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, everytime I have it switched on and close the screen, but when I lift it again the screen will not come back on. To fix it I used to just press the power of button so it will Hibernate and then power it back up again and it would be ok. This was very annoying at the start but I have got used to it now so don't close it anymore. Another similar problem that has happened me about 20 times since I bought it 1.5 years ago, was when I closed the screen it would not come on again, I would actually have to hold the power button down for about 10 seconds until it powers of.
I would imagine the problem this time is that the button that gets switched when you close the screen is mechanically broken and will not release the screen again when it is opened.
So my main question is, I am thinking of ringing Dell and getting them to fix this problem but was wondering how they will look at it, will they say it is my fault and refuse to fix it under their warranty (i have a 3 year NBD with accidental cover also). I don't want to ring up and fall into their trap of saying that it is not their problem. What do you think is the best way to approach it to them so that they will fix it or replace the laptop?

They should fix it, its a fault with the laptop and not due to damage caused by you.
So you shouldnt have a problem just ring them and explain what problems you are having and they should take it back and replace it or repair it.

Eh..what have you tried to resurrect the screen after closing the lid..(sounds like Standby Mode..)?
    Does it happen every time?
Does it happen when you close the lid and re-open it straight away? Does it say anything on the screen if you do this?
Is there any sign of physical damage to the LCD/Latches?
They may ask you to perform a recovery..and it's fair enough unless you can provide answers/proof of actually troubleshooting the issue..

Yea this happens everytime I close the lid, it is definitetly not a standby problem, when the laptop is in standby mode the light fades and brightens, and I don't have the laptop set to do anything when I close the lid, nothing comes on the screen when I reopen it, the computer is still running away but the screen is turned off.
I still havn't contacted Dell about it as it is not bothering me to much, would they actually replace the laptop? If they done this would they give you the exact same model and specs again? or is there any chance that it would be slightly better?
