    Hey,

Had to re-install everything there a while ago and found that AVG free isn't available for download anymore? Whats the story with that?

Is there any other free anti-virus?

Is anyone else who uses the AVG free version having trouble with the latest update?
I've been trying to download it for the last 4 hours and it connects then says "update not found on this server".

Yeah, my virus definitions are up to date as far as yesterday, though there is a "critical update" when I click Search for Updates. And I get the same error message. Odd.

I'm getting it too. Strange. Just ditched Norton about a week ago for AVG. Norton is way too demanding on my not so modern systems.

Strange though, I've been using it for a good while now and never had any update problems before. Guess will have to keep trying every so often.

    This is what I get...

Anyone checked out the free version website, seems a bit screwed up as well.

You can download the update from the page linked above by sickboy, it is at the top of the page. Just choose to update from a folder rather than from the internet, and select wherever you downloaded the file from the webpage.

are you running 800x600 resolution on your screen?
The site looks fine under 1024x768 or higher.
If you mean the looks of it, if you mean the download speed read on.
Try a link like major geeks to download it on their download section.

    edit: regarding www.free-av.com or www.freeav.com

I have the same problem, but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon, if AVG stopped their free edition, you'd probably read about it in every news website

Get AntiVir, it is a far superior product to AVG. I had AVG before and it failed to find a virus on my system and when I tried out AntiVir, it found it.

I actualy paid the 20Eur for the Premium edition which will detect spyware as well as virii.

I had same problem. think you have to re-boot after the last update. If memory serves, if you hover the mouse over the icon tray it will tell you.

Using AVG Free for the past few years, I have found that if the update is large (couple of megs), it does seem to grind their systems to a halt. It goes after a few hours/no more than 2 days.

Having similar problems myself with timeouts etc.

What virus did it find that AVG didn't?

I'm quiet happy with AVG, it's found all viruses that I have been sent in emails or have been found in programs.
