I'm looking for some software that will allow users in an administration office print picking dockets to a printer in an offsite not connected warehouse. The warehouse does have BB connection, what are my options?

you could share the printer on a VPN

    vnc
    nx (google nomachine)
vpn network connection (as suggested, though I think this would be pretty slow....standard network drive access is)
    remote desktop
    pcanywhere

That's about all I can think of.

With "remote control" solutions, you need a way to get the file there, or else have it worked on by remote control.

I was initially thinking of a VPN that the warehouse user would be able to print their own docket directly from the picking system, but it is not a runner as the user is not computer literate.

The remote control s/w Net support,Pc anywhere, etc would have the problem of getting the file (spool) to the local pc in a format that can be read by the local machine. Unless the local pc had a copy of the picking software it is not going to be able to read the file.

Really what i'm looking for is for the admin staff to press print and for the remote printer to spew out the info.

Sounds to me like making the printer a shared one over a VPN network is your only way then. It's gonna be slow though....broadband or not. Make sure the VPN software has decent compression.

Yep its gonna be fierce slow even over broadband because the upload will kill ya. Depends how large the file is that the picking system sends out. It will bring the machine that wants to print to a stand still when the print button is pressed until the file is spooled to the printer.

I wonder could you just get the software to print to PDF or something like and save them all to a particular folder. Then have outlook or something similiar automatically email those pdf files to the warehouse every set amount of time and have outlook automatically print them out at the other end. A bit messy though but could work.
