sign up for a Gmail/ account, if you need an invite, let me know coz I have thousands available.

Once you've created the account (it's free), then forward all you stored mail on your PC to this new address. It might take some time depending on how much stuff you have saved.

Once it's all forwarded, fire up your new Mac and enter the details of your Gmail account into your Mail application, and there it is, for all eternity. Gmail is an IMAP account which means that it isn't stored locally on your own machine, it's stored in some drive in ??? I dunno.

Then also enter the details of your eircom account into Mail, and continue sending and receiving mail from that account too.

I'm sure there are other/better ways of doing it, but the advantage of Gmail (IMAP account) is that it's accessible from any computer hooked up to the internet.

If I understand you right, it's easy.

On your iBook, fire up the Mail application, and under the Mail menu, there's a Preferences option (or pretzel ,) and in there, you find an Accounts tab. Hit the + sign to add an account. Enter in the right information:

    Account type: POP
description: whatever makes sense to you (Eircom soph maybe)
    Full Name: whatever it is
    Email address: whatever it is

    click Continue

    Incoming mail server: mail1.eircom.net
    Username: whatever it is
    Password: whatever it is

    Outgoing mail server: mail1.eircom.net

A mate of mine did that with all his email for the last couple of years. He had tens of thousands of (non-spam) emails, keeping any attachments smaller than 2 megs.

He got an email from Google telling him that his account was temporarily locked, as he was responsible for 10% of all global GMail traffic that day.
