just opened new card rooms in killarney. holding my first mini festival in dec (fri dec 09 and sat/sun 10/11). i would appreciate boards members opinions on the blinds structure for the sat/sun 2 day tournanent which will have a euro250 entry fee (25 reg).i was thinking of 40 min blind levels to give plenty of play. any advice on struture, start time etc will be taken on board and considered. when all details are finalised, we will post details here for your information. max number of players--- 75. dealers provided. should antes be used? help me make this tournament special. any advice on any minor detail that we might overlook will be appreciated.

Only playing a few months so cant offer good advice on the structure but there are lots of experienced players on the site who I am sure can help you. Your club has been mentioned in a previous thread where everyone had good things to say about you. Anyway, I'm from Tralee and I'm wondering if you would be able to post some information on the games that are running every week. There is a sticky thread on the board indicating the type of information that should be posted in such a thread. The main things I would be interested in the the day, time, buyin/topup/blind structure etc. This would probably be more suitable to a new thread.

A lot of the players here probably haven't played in or organised a two-day event, so it's hard to know.

    My opinions:
For starting stack size, I'd say a minimum of 5000, with 8000 being about right for 40 minute levels.

    Standard blind structure: 25/50; 50/100; 75/150; 100/200; 150/300; 200/400; 300/600; etc...

Antes: Haven't a clue how best to introduce them, or even if they would be needed with 75 players. Someone else should know. I think the most important thing is that the structure doesn't get so tight that most players will be short-stacked at the end of day 1, or in day 2.

Other stuff to be considered: Make sure you know how to do chip races, balance tables, etc. Stick to a standard 10%-of-the-field payout, although with 75 players, the final table (top 9) should get paid. Also, with 75 players, you should be able to play down to the final two tables on the first day, or maybe even the final table.

Not sure what else, and I'm no expert anyway!

I don't think theres any problem with you posting your schedule to let people in the area know about it. Posting it repeatedly without posting anything else is another matter! :)

If you have a website add it to the Poker Links thread at the top of the forum.
If you have a regular schedule that won't change much maybe pm DeVore or Shortstack who run the antesup.com website and (afair) have several card clubs' tournament schedule listed.

As for the big tournament you want to organise? Have a look at Shortstack's Green Joker tournaments they've had a pretty good response from the boardies that attended.
For a big tournament you should have dealers for every table, a nice slow blind structure, be very clear about the prize fund and prize payouts (are you taking anything else for costs apart from the €25 reg fee?)

Any chance of you getting deals with a local hotel for travelling players, Im sure a few Dubs would be interested in coming down...

I agree with lenny, 8000 chips 25/50 50/100 75/150 etc (google for wsop/wpt structures could be useful) If you introduce antes it would normally be 100/200 100/200 25ante 150/300 25ante but antes can be a hassle getting people to put them out every hand and you need a lot of chips in the building

all-ready done bohsman. anybody travelling down for the week-end will get special rates in the eviston house hotel,(town centre,150 metres from card club) at the very attractive rate of 40euro pp sharing per night(06431640. Table balancing,chip-racing etc. wont be a problem.im just enquiring if other people have come across problems (however trivial) in these big tourneys that can be avoided and preferred blind levels. any member of boards who would like to come down for the weekend will be very welcome ,but our numbers are limited to 75.

    Hi Connie,
Sounds like you have the makings of a great 1st festival, I hope to be there. Just wondering, will you be running any cash games? If so, would they be all Holdem or will you have PL Omaha side games too?
    KP

We have trained dealers so that wont be a problem, we will have a 40 min blind level with either 8000 or 10,000 starting stack to allow for plenty play, and id like to confirm that 100% of the players 250 euro entry fee will be going back out to the players in the prize fund. whatever the extra costs incurred will be bourne by ourselves as a promotional cost.

Poker in the Kingdom, woohoo! I will let you know in next couple of weeks if I will be able to get there. Basically, if I don't qualify for Caribbean Poker Classic, I will be in Kerry for your festivel... not that they clash, but if I'm going as far as St Kitts, which I still hope to be, I will take a nice holiday afterwards! I'll keep in touch anyway, I have your number from earlier post on this thread. Keep up the good work, KP :)

Ken, you know we can't play omaha down here! You're just looking for easy money methinks. I hope you can come, it will be a great weekend. Full details will be posted very soon.

Pokerking, the idea of a 2 day tourney is good blind structure allied with decent starting stack and play down to final table on day 1. Play on day 2 will start early and hopefully end early giving time for those who need to get home and for those who don't, time to sample the local hospitality.

As most of you are aware, Connie is a seasoned player who has been at the business end of some top tournaments (notably final table at the Irish Classic) and has a very good idea of what to do to ensure a first class tournament. He is also liberally asking for advice off people here (ZZR1100 etc) who have a lot of experience. His OP here is really an attempt to cover all bases and find out from the people who play what they all prefer.
It would be great to see a room full of boardsters in Killarney all having a great time and looking forward to returning. Just so long as they all understand that we intend to keep most of the prize money here!
