Okay, 2 computers, both very new, and powerfull computers, one from dell ,the other homemade.. Anyway, they both have network cards, the homemade one has anyway, and the dell one says it's connection ready, with a speed of 400mpbs..

Anyway, I think all I need is a cable to connect them? what's it's name?

Crossover cable, if you just want to connect them to each other.
Ethernet cable if you want to connect them via a second networking device.

    You can also use Firewire.

the speed of the firewire port is 400mbs. You can connect the computers this way if you want.

If you are going to connect them with ethernet then the max speed you will get is 100mbs.

Firewire is your best bet if both computers have it and the computers are near to each other. (Think the max cable length is 5m.) Ethernet can go further, so it will be better if they are not so near. (I'm presuming that you _don't_ have gigabit ethernet, which would be faster than the firewire.)

If they're new Optiplex or Precision desktops then they should have 10/100/1000Mbps on-board Intel controllers... afaik the Dimensions still ship with 10/100Mbps controllers.
