I have heard that the new dragon cams allows view of sky programs in a non-sky box… any use one of these/know if its true ?

For the record: I am talking about a fully paid sky subscription, just don’t want to use the sky dogeybox

I am not talking about getting anything I am not fully paying for with sky…

Nds will work on the old firmware with a original dragon I tried and is no problem at all, but the new firmware with nds support (sky) was removed because it was unstable, for other things, or just try also a dreambox they support also nds

correct !! the Predator 3.22 version does not support NDS.
To stay it was unstable is not true in my case.Version 3.21 works perfect with my Sky card

if on a budget the 500s (no hdd) for 195 incl .del http://www.elektronikwelt.net/product_info.php?cPath=12_76&products_id=588 model will do fine. the 5620 (no hdd) has ci slots and costs about 260 incl. del (should get cheaper off other german sites) off hm-sat.de ,highly recommended.hm-sat also has 7000s ,about400 incl .del, model which you can add a hdd to.have one of these and its great.have my sly card working with it.can record onto your hdd.did not have a clue how to use the dreambox when i got it but now its no problem.there is loads of forums, guides for help.

Is there not a problem you need a digibox as well as the card does not get new "keys" and needs periodically re-activated in a Sky Digibox?

Yes. But I would recommend a Dreambox 500s receiver instead. No cams required.

no cams , just download up dates aye [possibly with a memory stick]?

the dreambox 500 and 5620 do not have usb ports i think,so cannot use usb sticks. internal memory allows you to store software cam etc.there is a software cam which will update sly card each month, just leave sat on astra 2
    when update is due.

The box has flash memory. Can't use a USB stick on the 500s but you can on larger models. New 500s-pvr has a hard drive. Loading a non-official image will allow updates to be downloaded directly from internet. There is no need for updates if just using SKY card. The card WILL update in the dreambox so no need for digibox. If you have other dreamboxes in the house they can all share the one card (equals free multiroom). If box has a hard drive you can record channels as per SKY+.

So for starting off would you recommend the 500 or should i look for an old 7000 on ebay?

[ i like the HD option , mainly only use my TM 7700 for footy / tps / art sport and movies on tps]

As far as setting up both boxes are the same. The 7000s has more choice of images to pick from but the most popular is Gemini and is available for both. I have both boxes. The 500s is a beautiful trouble-free machine. I have had more problems with the 7000s, but it is fine now. A note about second-hand 7000s: There were problems with original models with tuner chips and overheating and you would not have a warranty. My 7000s went back twice under warranty. No problems with 500s. To start I would suggest a 500s. Get everything working (treat it like a hobby) Then if you get a 7000s you can share the card with the 500s.

    will do ,cheers.:)

Forgot to mention, the 500s has only one card slot, the 7000s has two. The two slots are useful if you have a UK freesat card for ITV. C4 and C5. If however you have two dreamboxes you can share the slots on each.

SO basically I can have a dreambox 500 and then can get rid of my crappy sky box with the FTA card.
I will still have the same channels
    BBB1 - 4
    UTV's
    Ch4
    Ch5

i would not buy a dm 500s for the sake of sly ftv channels.the sly box ain't that bad.if you get a dreambox, you can get digitalb card (soccer and movies) for 111 euro incl. del,or you can get art card(nearly all prem matches) for 131 euro incl off this site
http://www.satellite-supplies.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_28 .both cards are for 6 months but good value for a premiership fan.they responded to my delivery question(which is 12 euro for reg. mail) within a few minutes, which ain't bad.

Its fine if you want one _ANYWAY_ for PVR and lots of other stuff. But possibly a bad investment if "just" for Sky card use, which could end anytime, even though a legitimate card is legitimately paid for.

Complain about Sky's monoplistic lack of issue a CAM to EU, TD, Consumer agency etc...
