New iMac anyone?

Mines ordered just yesterday. I'm very excited about it, simply getting 4 times the processor speed of my current imac and 6 times the memory, let alone many other hardware issues, dvd burning and OSX.4 is thrilling enough. However, it comes with a right clickable mouse (thank god Apple have given in on that idea), a wee camera and a remote control, heh.

My only gripe is the fact that they don't have a modem jack. Wtf? High speed internet is pretty popular now but why are Apple completely removing the modem?!

Anyone else getting the new iMac?

I was going to get the Mac mini, but now that's settled it - I'm going to wait until February and get the 20" iMac. It's incredibly sexy, even more so with the remote control and software, and build in iSight.

And about the modem - think about it - how many unused 56k modems must there be out there in the world?

Why would you want a 56k modem in a desktop machine? It really is only taking up space unnecessarily - honestly would you use it?

A 56k modem probably still makes sense for a laptop but with wireless broadband access becoming quite ubiquitous I'm sure it too will be become an unnecessary addition in the not very distant future. :)

I would imagine that I would use it, yeah. I need the internet occasionally, especially when I want to powertrip and ban people indiscriminately from boards! I can't get broadband at the moment, it's a bit tricky for me right now. Also prices in Greece for broadband aren't as cheap as they are over in Ireland.

It's funny cause I was all set to get the mac mini but didn't really want to lose the 'lottery' once I heard they were shipping 1.5s etc. but not badging them.

I'll be buying the 17" imac now instead in a couple of weeks. My first mac after buying my girlfriend an ibook i'm a convert!

Wireless broadband is still quite the luxury in Ireland if you don't live in a big urban centre. Us country dwellers still have to put up with the nightmare that is 56k.

Theres many people in Dublin who can't get broadband either. Besides a 56K modem is handy when the broadband is down.
