with these new traffic lights now down by the roost has it gotten any better or is there more delays? at least there will be less crashes hopefully. but it looks to me as if it's gotten much slower?

I gotta say, there's an impressive amount of traffic lights in Maynooth now. Driving from Rockfield to the North Kildare rugby club last night we went through no less than 7 sets of lights. Some of the lights seemed to conflict as well. i.e. in the same lane, the lights on the left would be green and the one on the right red. Almost comical. Almost.
I'm pretty it can't be good for congestion.

I wouldn't bother going through the town if it's not necessary.

To go from rockfield my advice would be to go through straffan wood, come out at the top of beaufield, turn left and head over the motorway bridge,

there's a cross roads abot 6/700 metres after it. turn right there,

travel 1km or so and take another right going over another motorway bridge.

You'll reach a T-junction after a bit where you turn left and then you're on the Kilcock road a little past the graveyard.

    Saves all the traffic lights.....

I know of this route but it takes longer, plus it's pretty treacherous in the dark what with the narrow roads and lack of lighting. It seems we're now doomed forever to stop in the village every 50 yards at superfluous sets of lights!

The traffic is an absolute disgrace. Took me 15 minutes to get through the village on the 66 bus today at TEN IN THE MORNING!!

I dont even wanna think what it would be like come 5 or 6 in the evening!!

My brother reckons it's the worst place he's ever driven in this country. That junction by the Roost was lethal until the traffic lights were put in.

Bah, those lights have taken the fun out of crossing the road outside the Roost. It used to be a great, death-defying activity! Like petting an agitated grizzly bear with a pointy stick.

it's pretty awful at the moment, hasn't really made much of a difference to be honest. that little turning right lane, down towards the new campus, on the main street outside the roost is ridiculous. if there's more than 3 cars in it, any more cars taht want to turn right are backing into the lane to drive straight on and it blocks up everywhere. anytime the lights in maynooth are out, the traffic seems to flow just fine. get rid of half of the Square and introduce some kind freeflow lane or roundabout and it's be grand....

What I don't understand is why the traffic is so bad... unless you live there there's no need to go through Maynooth. The M4 is below capacity for god's sake and will take you wherever.
