Drilling a hole in my guitar, advice please

    Hey,
Bought a brand new Fender semi-acoustic the other day and I want to drill a hole in it to put a strap holder onto it.

It's got the strap holder (line out thingy) on one end and it's wrecking my head trying to play it standing up with the strap tied around the head...

I have the strap holder thingymabob here but I need to drill a hole where it usually goes to apply it to the guitar.

Any advice on doing it? Did it before on a guitar that's recently fallen apart (literally) and it worked well with a rawl (raw, wall) plug to hold the screw in place but just wondering if all the vibrations would damage the guitar or if it'll affect sound at all (old guitar was a peice of crap and didn't really hear how it sounded before the strap thingy was put on)

Well, you could drill a small hole in the heel and screw in the strap button but considering you used a rawl plug on your other guitar, I suggest you give Derrick Nelson a call. His number is in the Resources thread.

I drilled a small hole in the heel of my acoustic and just screwed the strap nut straight in. You need to make sure the drill bit is slightly smaller that the strap nut screw. I wouldn't use a rawl plug. If your unsure go to a professional, the last thing you need is to f*ck up your new Fender Semi!!

Don't, whatever you do, use a rawl plug. As Quattroste said, use a drill bit smaller than the screw. Perhaps check out a few other acoustics in town to see where the strap button is located first.

Rawl plug! That's for things made of concrete and plaster.

Jaysus, a rawl plug's a bit OTT no? Just drill a small hole a bit smaller than the screw shaft guage in the heel for it
