I have 280 gigs worth of storage on an oldish desktop and I have a selection of DVDs backed up onto it so I can stream them to my laptop. Other than that few gigs of pics from my camera. 20 odd gigs of music, and a couple of gigs of music videos and stuff.

my new 250gb hard drive died a couple of weeks ago, was just making a horrible clicking noise when trying to spin up :o

did the trusty plastic bag in a freezer trick and recovered all of the important **** off it. ****ing thing seemed to keep working perfectly after this, so i've got my 160gb drive jam packed. and the 250 only used to store stuff that's already backed up to dvd
got 109gb of music on my main hd and 30gb of movies and other random crap on the secondary... there's well over 170gb going unused on it

Yeah i heard it recently too. If your HD starts failing put it in a sealed bag to avoid moisture getting into the disk and freezing and well freeze the disk its a kinda 50/50 deal may or may not work. And

AFAIK you want to get your data off it not really use it all the time again I.E. dont keep important stuff on it as it is more likly to fail again.

Sandbox Linux distros, some games (windows install) and more films than you can shake a stick at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

Games (majority of space), some music, some video, some (lots of) filth, the usual. ;)

The largest non-games directory I have is one where I keep a backup of every app I've downloaded. Most of them are in the free software sticky. They're all free things / shareware. :)

60 gigs of games and progs i use on the net...
    35 gigs of music
450 gigs of video's of my kid and m8's and stuff.
1.2 gigs of pics of parties, parties and erm.... sessions :)
    200 gigs of filth really....

500 gigs of backed up games and files, movies etc stuff i cant do without ever.

    about 1.3 terabytes in total.
just over 300 gigs free space left.

100 gigs of illegal music. 3-4 gigs of porn. Lots of american tv series, and the rest illegal films. Then lots of pirated music apps and games. I need to start dealing with terabytes as I've run out.

ive 400gb of HD video, so that takes up a load of room, 2 mins is like 130mb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,984 ✭✭✭✭Lump

I'd say it takes up about 400 Gigs :) Where are you getting the HD videos? Stuff you've shot?

no cant afford a HD cam Yet :D.

Its actually ripped from shows that aired on Direct TV HD, the likes of the sopranos and 24 etc, some are from hi def testing screens aswell, they will tie in well with the new HD lcd in January.

I also done a recording of a BBC hi-def test there a couple of weeks ago, so that took up a fair bit of room indeed.

I don't whether to be suprised at the amount of porn people have, or their honesty. :)

I have 35 GB of tv shows, 11 GB of music, 2.5 GB of books, 1.9 GB of games. Damn laptop with a small harddisk.

I'm suprised at some of those figures. how do I have so many games, I have a mac ffs. and some how 11 GB of music fits on my 6GB ipod... Hmmm...
