I can get a perfect very decent p4 very cheap its 3ghz, but is their any potential left in intel for this socket, a very good motherboard costs €200 and i would want to get at least 12 + months out of motherboard, (i understand i would have to get another chip at that time), but is there any point, it will be a big investment, ie. the memory wont be compatible with an AMD socket 939 so i would be stuck with it etc

    thanks

Whys the memory not compatable with the Athlon 64's?

AMD is moving to socket M2 next year for DDR2 support.

Make sure the chipset is dual core capable (the 915 and 925 chipsets are not).

Nobody really knows if Intel will be changing sockets soon, or if their current chipsets will support next years chips (esp. the pentium-m based chips). Chances are they won't.
