Hi I was wondering if someone could give me some info on this. I used to box do judo and kung fu and I know someone who is competing in these vale tudo style fights and it sounds like good fun. What I’m wondering is if someone who hasn’t fought in awhile could enter one of these tourneys? the only one I could find on goggle is the Irish MMA League 2005 but the league has no headshots aloud which isn’t my thing at all but it does have what it calls *super fights* that do allow headshots I’m wondering if anyone knows how you would qualify for these super fights it doesn’t say on the website and I hate emailing people haha oh and yes i do know i'm crazy trying to enter one of these contests without being in a club ect lol

Mark Leonard Colm O'Reilly and John Kavanagh can you give you a more thorough explanation but i'll give it a shot.

The league is designed, afaik, to encourage people that haven't competed before to give the sport a chance but out too much risk of injury. It also a area for people to compete more often at a beginner level in the sport. In someways the absense of head shots takes a lot away from the people who's main area of expertise is Kickboxing, TKD or kungfu / karate. People who haven't fought in the league before or in a similar event are called rookies and rookies usually fight other rookies.

about the superfights. these, are organised a lot more individually. there for, again, afaik, people that hae competed in the early leagues and have progressed from the this level and are between fighting at the professional events. i think superfights have head shots standing but not on the ground or prone positions.

without me knowing you or how good you are at MMAs I'll still recommend you start in the league at the normal level and not start in a super fight. It will be very tough for you to win by KO without a head shot but it's the best way to try the sport out. I myself am entering as a rookie.

Alright thanks for the info. I'll give the rookie a shot, I really haven’t fought in awhile *bout 3 years* and never got that far in the sports but I’m very interested in starting Jiu-Jitsu and think entering this will show me how well mixed martial artists can fight against your average fighter.
