Thought it might be wise to try one out for a few days before buying.

Anywhere in Dublin rent 'em? Can't remember ever seeing any.

ah theres no need. A day or two and ye'll be grand on the bike. Just take it easy in traffic though. If yer looking for a cheap first bike, Red Zone down in the KCr are selling Benelli 05's for 1400€. N0ow the Benelli wouldn't be the best name for a moped, but the engine is the same as the Katana.
Just like a skoda of the car world.

Generally it's not possible to rent any form of motorcycle in this country due to insurance issues. The exception is that a few trainers can supply a school bike for lessons / test, but this is pricey and you need to book a course of instruction not just one lesson. Try ISM or MSA, and possibly some of the IRTA instructors.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.
