I'm trying to do a repair on my windows xp installation but for some strange reason I cant boot from CD or even bring up the windows setup screen pressing f8. The keyboard works to bring up my motherboard settings but once it enters post no matter what I press nothing happens. It even says press any key to boot from cd but like before nothing happens when i do?
    Please help

USB or PS/2 keyboard or laptop (i.e. Different than spec. in sig.)?
    Remove all external devices.
Ensure that the computer is switched off (not in hibernation, etc.)
    Restore BIOS defaults.
    Try again..

Why are you doing a repair? hmmm.

Well its linked to a thread i started earlier, here . I got the repair going in the end but my pc crashed half though that aswell. Dont have a clue what the problem is looks like I might have to wipe my C drive and start again.

is the CD-ROM setup as the first boot device? You should locate those options in the BIOS menu at startup.

Yup had the CD rom set as first boot device. I was able to get the desktop up so i just ran the windows installation cd from there. Halfway through repairing windows it crashed and now I cant even get the computer to start. Just loud beeping noises from my m/b. Gonna have to open it up and have a look. At this stage it must be a hardware problem. Could be defective m/b?

Depends on how many beeps, duration of them, etc. Try here , i would guess its a faulty mobo.

Ok I opened it up and cleaned out the dust checked all the connections. Now when i boot up i can enter the bios settings screen. After exiting out it goes to the post screen and everything looks normal(it detects both my hard drives) although it does say 'raid: none define'?
Then it goes to the please select your operating system. Theres a choice between winxp home and winxp setup. Unfortunately this screen only appears for 5secs and the default option is winxp setup which i cant change because the keyboard is unresponive. Then it goes to a screen which says 'Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration' and it just wont go anywhere after that.
I've tried booting with h/d and also cdrom with the xp disc in as 1st boot device, either way its the same.

I reckon this could be either h/d or m/b problems?

Turned out it was a faulty ram causing this problem. For some reason memtest didnt pick up the error when my ram was in the dimm 1 or 2 slots. I put it in the dimm 3 slot and tested it, got over a thousand errors!
