I remember a few years ago Norton had a utility for reformatting disks without loseing data. I think it worked by copying a block of data to another location, formatting the original block and then writing the data back to it. It was a part of Norton Utilities I think. It was a but slow but nonetheless a very useful tool.

Does anyone know of a similar tool/application that works on XP / NTFS formatted drives?

forgive my ignorance but why would you need such an app?

I'm glad you asked me that. Scratches head...

I suppose if I do find it I will be the very first person to have an useless app on their PC just because they thought it might be useful.

    Good man Dazberry.

I coughboughtcough a copy this morning and it has fixed several errors on my disk. It's like a new PC again.

There were a number of cross-linked files on my system. Fix-It utilities couldn't fix them, nor could chkdsk /f. Spinrite seems to have done the business.
