SKY TV Reception

    Hi

Has anyone experienced problems with SKY over the last couple of weeks? The picture (and sometimes sound) freezes and can stop and start at anytime.

I thought this may be the TV, tried another TV and get the same.

Called SKY's Customer services line, was told its a problem with either the weather or our dish and we would have to pay EUR 109 for a standard callout!

Just got my phone bill in and have seen that for the 2 calls to their 0818 number I made for 28 mins (mostly holding) has cost me EUR 8 each. .. but hey thats another story!

I dont think its our SKY disd, we have had it for 3 years and have had no problems. To top things off, the TV's in the gym were doing the same 'freezing' thing tonight. .. so surely its not my dish if the gym have the same problem??

Has anyone had the same problem? did you pay the EUR 109 call out fee?? or is it a more general problem with SKY's transmission??

    Help!

We have had this problem too. We tried adjusting the dish and got the signal strength and quality as high as we could.

Despite this it still happens. My Mum rang someone to ask about a freesat package the other day and mentioned it to the guy and he said it is most probably a decoder problem. After about 5 years they start to play up apparently.

He suggested calling the sky guy out and that if they couldnt solve it by any other means they would include a replacement decoder in the €109 fee...

We still have not called them out so am not sure when we will get round to it...there are decoders for sale on here in the FS General thread for €50 and upwards

why would you post this again? you got it right the first time when you put it in satellite

if calling someone out go with an independant as 109 is indeed a rip off
just because something worked for 3 years doesnt mean it wont work
i would think your dish is misalligned
possible problem with your Sky box, maybe lnb
also, how can it be a problem with Sky's transmission if its not happening with everyone?

If there's been bad weather in your area that'll cause a bad signal. The Micro Waves (Short Wave length) are obsorbed by the clouds. Also, it may be a problem at the transmitting satellite, although less likely, as they're quite powerful, and on the BT tower/some other building that's tall and set up correctly, with moveable dishs.

Of course you may have accidently moved your dish...
