5 reasons to support the harry callaghan weekend
« Thread Started on Today at 13:04 »

    1. The event is remembering the tenth anniversary of the death of one of the pioneers of what we have today, unfortunately people in southern ireland know more about the history of the punk scene in los angeles or berkely than they do of the history of the scene in their own country. Harry was a unique contributor to irish punk culture through his zines, poems, bands and his all round commitment to being a punk when it was really a challenge and an affront to the authorities.

    2. Harry not only contributed through the creative things he did but by being friendly, intelligent, humurous and welcoming, obviously like anyone he had his ups and downs but he played a role in a lot of people getting into punk who might otherwise have dismissed it as unfriendly and elitist. Harry was a good friend and a father. Much missed.

    3. Theres going to be a real good mix of people at it with a big crowd expected from london, many old faces pledging to turn up and harrys ma, his son and his and brother coming along, this should be a good social event.

    4. The event is a two day punk bash in dublin on a bank holiday weekend with three events, one free, two all ages and lots of really good music - lots of good bands and other stuff.

    5. The event is being organised on a completely non profit basis by a few people invovled in the scene in ireland for the sole reason of remembering one of our own, not for money, not for self promotion.

please support the weekend, tell your mates, spread the word. full details below.

Voodoo wouldn't be the hardest place to get into if you're under 18. PV are playing on the 22nd of Dec. aswell (if you happen to have a birthday between now and then...)

Yea. Use it to leave when particualry lazy or drunk. But have never entered though it. Probably should have for that ridiculously over priced Modfathers gig. It's a "fire exit", but with no alarm, aparently.

Could anyone give us a bit of info on Coitus and Dread Messiah and The Pretty Black Catholic Boys?

I'm just kinda curious cos I've never heard any of them.

Harry Callaghan: "I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" ....Well, do ya, punk?"

    ...A true legend.

hi all, thanks for the interest in the weekend, all seems to be falling into place so should be a belter,

anarcho monk- coitus and dread messiah are two bands who were part of the london punk scene in the nineties, harry sang with dread messiah . they both play heavy almost metal influenced punk as **** music and should be dead good. the pretty black catholics are memebrs of two really old dublin punk bands called the Pretty and The Black catholics, they wont have played for rmaybe 15 to twenty years or more so god knows what will happen on the day, its cool though that they are supporting the weekend, a couple of songs even would be worth seeing. the Pretty get a mention in the new Loserdom zine in the history of early irish zines article.

    Saturday looks a bit like:

3-4 djs -good time to check out photo exhibition etc before bands
    4-6 coitus and dread messiah
6-7 presentation of flowers to harrys ma and videos etc.

    then in voodoo

first band around 8.30 or 8.45

freebooters on sunday around 4.30 or 5.00, music form 4 an dcome early as we're expecting a big crowd.

thanks again for the interest and it looks like it will be a cracker, i expect bohs to be absolutely jammed on sunday- cant wait to see the restarts play to the crowd on sunday - a top band playing to a been at it for two days crowd in a sweaty venue - should be a classic. !
