Irish relatives in America

I'm currently researching my undergrad dissertation, the topic of which is the occupational mobility of the Boston and San Francisco Irish, 1860-1880. I'm trying to find primary sources, and was wondering whether anybody could help me to find letters/diaries/anything relating to an Irish family in either city during this period. I would be eternally grateful to anyone who could help me, since this would help give a personal feel that census data simply cannot deliver!

Have you tried checking newspapers in the National Library?
