    Hey Everybody,

I've just arrived in Ireland and i'd really like to get a new guitar. I've read some threads and cannot really find any information about some shops i've noticed around, they're called waltons, they got lots of guitars, are they any good, i found also an online website, the price aren't so bad, anyone to advise or to tell some experiences or give me other adresses

    Great thanks

    Scoual :)

the website is an online shop, that's one of the only i found for ireland

Generally it's far cheaper to buy from the likes of www.thomann.de or www.guitarbargains.com and have the guitar shipped to here.

If you must, the area to the west of Grafton Street has the likes of Musician Inc, Waltons, Perfect Pitch and Musicmaker within a few hundred metres of each other. There are also a few shops on Capel Street.

If you have a particular guitar in mind, there are enough helpful souls found on this forum who will help to find it cheap.

    Thanks for the quick answer,
don't really like the idea of having the guitar coming from another country with ups or else at there 's always thieves, lazy drivers and careless handlers
    -
i'm thinking of getting a gibson les paul standard desertbust or vintage sunsurst, i've also seen a new one the faded, i saw one in dublin but don't remember where, could be waltons on Georges st..

so where do u think i can get the best deal in dublin, i want to carry it from the shop to my apartment and then start to rock..

    cheers

New Les Pauls are about €2500 here, which is nuts. Either get it second hand or shop abroad, you'll just be throwing money away by buying here.

    What he said.

A whole rake of us here have gotten stuff from the likes of Thomann and guitarbargains, no bother at all, fast delivery etc. I was hesitant the first time I bought online, but its the way to go. You cant argue with 500+ quid in your back pocket

I'd be far more worried about theives like Waltons, if you get my meaning.

Seriously though, I've bought a couple of guitars from guitarbargains.com chrisguitars.com and ebay, it's perfectly safe.

waltons makes me  .....+ they have an online store now....... irish prices on the internet...... whats the point!

its perfectly fine to get them on the internet once its form a reiable resource.

If u were to get a gibson dont buy it here. + if ur going to buy a guitar musician inc. is probably the best place to go, and i was never sure of the faded model gibsons =/

WHoa, apparently you don't really like the irish shops. I think you pay a little bit more but you also get someone to talk to one to one about your purchase
usually speaking i think the guys there knows what they're talking about and you can come back if there's a problem no need to pay ups to return the thing to thoman (probably unopened in its original package) anyone had bad experience buying online or outthere ie waltons, musicmaker, ppitch etc....

    thanks

In fairness, when I bought my Ibanez, I tried it out in Musician, then bought it on line. 5 minutes of a snotty guitar shop employee's time is NOT worth an upcharge of €500 or so.

I bought my fender from thomann and was/am delighted with the whole deal.

I wouldnt give money to any of the shops in Dublin. Generally speaking with a few possible exceptions, they try to make you feel small when you walk in.

I was going to buy my guitar from one particular shop but their attitude turned me right off of them. They treated me like a time waister, little did they know I had the cash in my pocket ready to buy. I wont even visit that shop anymore, which is a shame because IMO they have the best range of top line guitars in Dublin.

Buy from Thomann, thats my recommendation.

To be fair, there are a few guitar shop employees who are knowledgeable and informative, there are also a few who are pleasant to deal with. However, I won't be giving my money people who quite happily try to swindle €45 for a set of bass strings. In my experience, you can save 50% or more on the cost of buying a guitar here by shopping abroad. My 6 string bass cost me €1024 from the states, I was quoted €1900 for the 5 string version in a shop here. When you consider how much a Les Paul is here and realistically you could save at least €1500 on the price of one by buying from abroad, I think you'd be nuts to buy from any shop here.

Indeed, my Ibanez was around the €1200 mark to buy here in Ireland, got it for a mere €700 including shipping.

Anyone know how much Ibanez SZ520's go for in Dublin? I've a feeling I saved a good few hundred...

Man, I love those Prestige cases. Such a good fit. And fluffy!

Oh such a beauty of a guitar!

I'm drooling with my wants of such a guitar, but in black. I will have it! Oh yeah, I must!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭Scoual

Well, i've browsed through the forum and found that there's somethin like thomann here in dublin without shipping price, anyone has ever dealt with it,music technology? ,i cant find anything about them there's not even a shop
    help anyone please!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

well i think you still have to pay shipping, but it's only 20e or so, really worth..

Music technology deals with thomann directly instead of yourself, so you order from music technology, pay them, and they order from thomann, it's good as if you do have any problems you have a rep here in ireland who you can talk to..

Even if you were to have problems with thomann directly regarding a faulty product etc, they pay return shipping.

Ive dealt with Cormac from Music technology, gotten a few things off him a couple of years ago. Hes sound as a bell. I guess the advantage of using him is like yer man said, less hassle if something goes wrong. Also, if you dont have a credit card.

Completely, completely off topic by now....but thats not a prestige case. I hate prestige cases (M100), theyre really crappy, and ive had a good few over the years. I have one for my torquoise JC, thats why im looking for a UV1000 on the
    wanted forum.
Thats there is a M200, its a team J craft case. It looks similar, but is MUCH, MUCH nicer.
You cant buy them here, if you could, id buy a whole load, best case ive had so far, really well made.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Well, it's whatever one Karl Hungus has. Prestige is modelled on the outside of the case with a J-Team plaque on it. Looks very very similar to the case in that picture.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,706 ✭✭✭Voodu Child

Yep that sounds right, sounds like a M200. Theyre lovely, much sturdier than a M100. If KH does have a M200, i find that very interesting, maybe theyve started giving them with prestige Ibanez's. They usent to. Anyway, v nice cases.
    Completely, completely of topic.. :D

    Hi there

Just a question.. how do Music technology make money then...if you pay the same amount as you would with Thomann..?
Do they have a commission from Thomann?
Cause all this local service + cheap price sound nice but..they might charge you a bit more, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

i forgot to mention ima leftie so im even more likely to buy online

+ i have a fair decent knowledge of guitars n things, and people in the shops cudnt tell me Much more than i didnt already know, But u do pick up a few new things wen u talk to them but still.... =/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭sei046

it is very very easy for those guys in dublin to tell ya what they bloody want. Its nice to walk in knowing they are talking sh*t and hear the stuff they say. They just love dealing with beginners so they feel they know everything. DONT buy off them if they give you any crap. Far too expensive. I will give them my money when they bring down their prices to at least the ball park of thomanns
