Hmmm that's a long time considering Munich runs last week of September and first week of October.

hmm possible then that the left over speciality brews are exported after the festival, interesting. Spaten used only be brewed especially and was only available at that time of year, I'm not sure if that is still the same.

<edit> I'd love to pop along myself but cant until my stomach is in better shape, ah well maybe next year :(

Couple of us drank the entire oktoberfest menu (bar the non-alcoholic stuff of course) last nite. They had 5 bottles for the price of 4, which was great, so 4 euro a bottle!
And they stamp the card with the menu on it, when you get one. :)
    Great night!

All the Munich breweries brew special Oktoberfest beer, which is a little stronger than usual. This is a tradition that dates back to an unseasonally warm Wies'n 100-odd years ago where all the regular strength beer went off, much to the chagrin of all concerned.

While a bigger deal is made of the Oktoberfestbier in pubs in the weeks before the Fest, many of the breweries brew the stuff all year round and you can buy it in bottles and pubs. Augustiner Edelstoff is the one that comes to mind here.

    Dermot
