is anyone getting BBC1 England through their aerial. it is obviously taken from satellite seeing as UK Today is on after the news. what i can't stand is the fact that they are showing it in 4:3 with words etc. cutting off the screen but it is a 3rd BBC1 region which means programmes at different times if the case may be

    mossy,
I've got BBC ONE and Two from South west England( and Carlton+Engish channel four) here in North Wexford with a long group A aerial pointed to Caradon Hill in Cornwall- instead of UK today they have their own news for the south west called spotlight-I only had the group A up there for a day and the reception was watchable but annoyingly bad- it was contant at that though for the day- Channells from that transmitter regualarily come in here on our group B presely aerial which is beamed further north-especially in high pressure weather conditions.
presumably if I had the group A for longer I could tell you whether its worth having reception wise-
Certainly if I had it on the days when the group B was picking it up the reception with the proper gear would be good.
You would get nothing or very bad with the right gear in rainy weather

it is only during good weather i pick up the signal direct from England and Wales(which means Channel 4, no big deal to some but a lot better than S4C). you people on the extreme east coast are very fortunate to pick up a direct signal rather than relying on brutal signals from transmittors on mountains like the rest of us

Is this from an Irish Deflector? BBC ONE (England) via DSat is basically BBC ONE London, except Newsroom SouthEast is replaced by UK Today. The other regional programmes (on BBC TWO) such as Metropol and First Sight are not replaced.

There is rarely any time-shifting of programmes in the English regions anyway - their regional output is minimal. BBC North and near-by regions do have Rugby League opt-outs though.

yeah it's from a deflector. not sure where it is though but the picture can be fairly poor at times

If thats a deflector and they are using a bbc card and sky digi to get the London version of bbc one- then they have access to, the English channell four.
wouldnt it be far better for ye to be watching English channel four as opposed to s4c...?
possibly they've only one digibox and thats the reson why.
but If I was running that operation and I had that setup i would leave bbc one wales on and use the digibox to give everyone english channel four instead!
After all theres practically no difference between BBC One Wales and the London version except for WALES Today and a very few local opt outs-so it would be better for ye thats using the service to get rid of s4c not bbc wales
this all sounds highly illegal by the way-but who cares

I presume if you look at the analogue ceefax on that bbc one england , you will know if they're using the digibox, as the bbc channels on Sky have no ceefax anymore (except for 888 subtitles , and a bbc news on bbc news 24).

If as I suspect it is the digibox version ( and therefore making it possible for them to relay English ch 4-if enough people ask for it)
then by pressing text you just get a page telling you to go to digital text

the reception isn't good enough to check CEEFAX but with UK Toaday on after the news it has to be the satellite version. as for Channel 4 instead of S4C. NTL had some sort of deal where they are the only ones to carry Channel 4 in the Waterford area. shame really but that's life. my only chances of Channel 4 are if Sky carry it, the local cable company if it ever comes down the extra 100 meters or so to my house and Chorus which lets face it i will not have

    mossy,
if the deflector is illegal-deals regarding ch 4 with ntl don't matter.
you can improve your reception even from a deflector , by spending a £100 or so on a better aerial grouped for that outfit and masthead amp-you are probably using a grid?

A large sunspot is on it's way to hit the earth. Might have something to do with the reception.

sadly i think the phrase book will be needed for a while yet. i think that if Channel 4 is to come from any of the 3 transmitters i can receive it would be here by now. i am using a grid aerial at the moment but it is knackered so i will have to go on a shopping spree in a bit. maybe i will get RTÉ sorted at the same time if it is possible. who knows

Talking about BBC england - here in the south side of Belfast Lough BBC NW frequentl appears on a frequency close to Net2 - I suspect it's 55 Winter hill. BBC NE & Cumbria appears very rarely but does make occasional appearances (especially if the scottish link to Sandale breaks down as happened 2 - 3 Christmases ago in the gales)
BBc 1 Wales appeared on 52 once in the summer.
Sorry to repeat what i said in another thread!
It can be intewresting to notew what format national wethaer is being broadcast in the regions - BBC scot likes widescreen as much as poss, BBC NI like the old format and BBC England varies.
Other enjoyable things that happen - I've seen films that are broadcast from the national regions - BBC Eng. / Scot and NI have been 2 - 3 seconds apart from each other!
    I must get out more....

well north Down-,just grab the remote in the local while waiting for the pint of plain to settle;)

hope you get to investigate RTE on vhf as suggested on the other thread.

B4 The bbc channels appeared on Sky,I was all set to hire a local sailing boat, sail a few miles out to sea,off Arklow(just otside national waters),climb the mast, and point an aerial for Divis and deflect this signal towards home.....
The bank manager refused however to finance this operation:D

i take back what i said. today i was flicking through the terrestrial channels to see what reception was like. i turned to BBC 2 and i saw a Sky Digital screen with the search and scan banner at the bottom with Channel 4 on it. i'd say they were activating the card or something because that screen telling you what the channel is about was displayed. i changed the channel and came back about 10 minutes later and it was working. reception isn't the best so i will have to sort that out. BBC2 now has taken the place of S4C on ch29 i think and Channel 4 has taken BBC 2's old spot on ch 22. and to top it all off. S4C is still there on ch 64 :)

for those who watch via the Dunmore East deflector in Co. Waterford. they too seem to have Channel 4 on ch68 or 69.
