    Hey kids,

I just wanted to ask... do any of ye know what the odds are for a white Christmas? We had one last year, so I am assuming we wouldn't get lucky with 2 years in a row.

Also... I have heard some people say that we are in for a harsh winter. Is it really possible to predict that when its only October?

I wouldnt lay any bets on it this year in Ireland.
Tiz never possible to call it months ahead of course but those with more spunk in their long range indicators than I think the possibility is low this year.

That said, apparently we are sacrificing a white Xmas(if there isnt one) for a much colder and possibly snowier spell in latejanuary/february(if there is one)

This is what the people at TWO (the weather outlook) who analyise this for a hobby and some as part of their job think...
Latest developments suggest the possibility of milder weather for much of the second half of December. This may well mean the UK is under a south westerly flow on Christmas day, with showers of rain in the west and drier conditions further east.

For these reasons we have downgraded the chance of a White Xmas from our initial forecast which was issued on the 25th September. So at the moment a green Christmas is looking more likely.

    Probabilities
Northern areas of the UK are considered to have a 15% to 25% chance of snow at Christmas.

Southern areas of the UK are considered to have a 5% to 15% chance of snow at Christmas.

This forecast will be updated regularly between now and Christmas.

Don't bother place a bet now anyway the odds usually dont change that
much between now and 10 days before christmas or even as close
    as a week!

Usually get around 6's or 7's then ;)

    I won 100 last year :D

I'll eat my hat if Dublin see's a second white xmas in a row..the chances of this happening are very VERY low.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
