serious system errors

Well my pc has decided to start acting up, basically just crashing a shortly after loading up. Usually when this kind of thing happens i'm pretty good at resolving it my self but this time I dont have a clue whats going on. The last thing i installed was a Battlefield 2 update last week but thats being running grand for the last while. Basically i cant figure out the source of this problem. I'm getting a lot of different error messages so far. The most concrete one so far includes a windows device driver error which keeps giving me the blue screen of death. After some investigation it would appear its my graphics driver. I couldnt get the pc to stay on long enough to download updates so i decided to plug my internet connection into my laptop to get the drivers. Funny thing is when i turned on my pc without being connected to the internet it became a lot more stable(i.e. not crashing) but i'm still getting all sorts of error messages. So far i've tried system restore, adaware/spybot scans. All temps appear to be running fine aswell. Could this be a virus?

Sorry about the convoluted style of my message but i'm really stuck and trying to get as much info across as possible. cheers

using xp? Try booting/hold F8 untill the safe mood screen appears. Select 'Boot from Last Known Good Configuration'. That should take the comp back to the last time everything worked right. Shutdown and restart - reset system restore (Switch it of and then back on to do this).

You might want uninstall that update first to see if that is causing the issue..

    :)

can you post some of the bsod errors, it will help me narrow it down to a hardware or software issue? thanks :)

I just installed new graphics drivers and it seems to be stable again. Just doing a disk defrag aswell Because it was badly in need of one. I going to go for a full restart after that and see how it goes.

As far as the bsod errors go I dont know exactly what they said because they would only show for about 4secs before the computer automatically restarted. I got the info about possible device driver issues from a micrsoft screen that came up saying 'Your pc has just recovered from a serious error etc'. If the problem persists, which i'd say it probably will i'll give you all the info i can.
Thanks for the help so far guys

You can get more info on it in Computer Management/System Tools/System (Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Computer Management). That should show you where the problem was and more info on the problem.

well its after crashing again halfway through the defrag. At the moment now the same thing keeps happening every time, basically it'll load up and then at random points(mainly when opening a new window/program) it'll crash to the blue screen for about 4secs and reboot with a 'windows has just recovered from a serious error' message.

Safe mode is running fine so its more than likely software related. I had a look at the logs in the computer management section but they arent really telling me much. Its just says which application caused the error but it just seems to be whatever program or function I was trying to start at the time. This would imply my windows install has become unstable but I not entirely convinced. If anyone knows how to read these error logs properly give me a shout

Is there any particular part of the blue screen info that will answer this. I only get a few secs to look at it so its quite tricky. Unfortunately I cant get a screen shot.

edit: well it just crashed in safe mode aswell so now i really dont know what to do?

This shows how to read the contents of the system dump that normally occurs on a BSOD.

Its a lil bit technical but may help.

This link might be a better guide.
