    SALARY SURVEY NOTES

    * The Marketing salary survey relates to basic salaries paid on a per annum basis.
    * These salaries will be further enhanced by company benefit packages. Typical benefits packages for marketers will incorporate some or all of the following: Company pension, healthcare plans, mobile, laptop, performance bonus, shares schemes, company car or car allowance, club and professional subscriptions, car parking space etc.
    * Marketing People are happy to present our annual salary survey for marketers within the FMCG and Drinks marketplace in Ireland. The survey refers to the minimum, average and maximum basic salaries awarded to marketers within the fast moving consumer goods and drinks sector in September 2005.
    * The data is compiled from comprehensive range of industry sources including a large selection of multinational and indigenous companies, key industry contacts and supplemented by up-to-date salary and benefit’s data from Marketing People’s extensive marketing candidate database.

    KEY OBSERVATIONS

    · Car Allowances continue to gain ground as the preferred choice for most marketers – however some survey respondents have vented frustration with their employers who don’t offer the choice of a car allowance. Just over 28% of FMCG/Drinks marketers have opted for car allowances compared to 25% in 2004. Car allowance policies tend to be paid to marketers at manager level and vary, depending on seniority, from €5,000 and €16,000 per annum.

    · High levels of recruitment and demand for marketers within the FMCG/Drinks arena from all the top branded players to small distributors has helped improve basic salary levels by an average of 5% in the last twelve months.

    · Performance bonus – both personal and company – continues to be a key component in marketers remuneration packages. Some companies offer this at all levels of marketing employees – however most offer it to managers – the norm being 10% within top blue-chip groups – with Marketing Directors getting as much as 25%. As well as being an incentive for high performance – it also has the added attraction of keeping retention levels high – many marketers not prepared to move once they are within sight of their next annual bonus payout.

    · Demand for blue-chip brand managers and marketing managers remains high. These marketers can expect to make an average 10% increase on their basic salary in their career move.

    · Over the last 12 months, there has been a dramatic increase in demand for all levels of Research and Analytical specialists with jobs up over 200% on the same period last year. Companies are investing substantially more in research and Consumer Insights. Salaries for these roles continue to rise ahead of the market.

    · On the basis of experience, Category management specialists are now outperforming Brand Managers in terms of basic salary and bonus. However Brand Managers are more likely to benefit from a Company car or car allowance.

    · Transferability of skills is on the increase with a 12% growth in the number of candidates moving from Agency to client side or vice versa.

    · There has been an increase of 5% in the number of foreign nationals being recruited into marketing roles within the FMCG sector over the last 12 months, primarily from EU countries. This is having some impact in steadying the growth of salaries at the mid and junior levels.
