Hey, myself and a few friends are currently trying to organise a car trip to Sweden, notably the WRC event there next February. There will probably be two cars going with 3 people in each and i'm just wondering if anyone has done this before or any pointers etc?

No search, so if this was asked a few months ago/last year i'll get it at the weekend :)

    Cheers

    Farlz

You'll probably want to get into Sweden via Denmark - there's a bridge connecting up with Copenhagen, unless you've any particular desire to go via Norway.

So you can pretty much get to mainland Europe, France or Holland and follow the roads from there through Germany.

Thats exactly what were planning on doing. Should we expect much trouble at borders etc? the only time i've driven across europe was sitting drunk in the back of a taxi through a few countries there...so not much experience! :(

Its also proving hard to get accomodation, most places seem to be booked out already for the rally.

I've no idea about accomodation for the rally - you may want to find a pitch and a warm sleeping bag :) Driving from country to country it's all within the EU and there shouldn't really be any problems. Have your passport with you incase anyone wants a glance but there shouldn't be any issues. For the most part there isn't really any noticeable borders (though perhaps between Germany/Denmark or Denmark/Sweden, I remember having to show a passport on a train for the former).

Depending on what part of sweden you intend going you can get a ferry from newcastle to norway ( I think it take 24hours ) this would save u sitting in a car for too long plus lots of tolls and petrol !

It'll be very, very cold in Sweden in February. In the northern parts of the country all cars have specially fitted tyres to deal with the winter and they plug their cars in at night to keep them warm so they start in the morning.

Not sure which part you are going to.

You'll have no problems at the borders. There's also a boat from Puttgarden in Germany to Rodby in Denmark which only takes an hour and might save you some time.

A mate of mine drove from Dublin to Sweden three years back. He took the Belfast to Stranraer ferry, then drove across Scotland, a took a second ferry from Newcastle to Kristiansand in Norway, then drove from there to wherever it was in Vaarmland.

Would have been fine if the ferry hadn't caught fire in the middle of the north sea in the middle of the night (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/1994921.stm).

Clarkson done this run, from london through chunnel.

looked impressive and you should have no probs with the boarders. The proce of petrol varies from country to country so a bit of research should save some money.
