Any sign of the dvd retailers doing the Halloween specials yet? I know last year there was some great bargains, DvDsoon were doing some good films at $6 Cad (about 3.50 delivered).
The only one I can spot is Amazon (but their shipping is a bit pricey)

    50% Off Asian Horror

    Cult Classics

    Contemporary Horror

    www.horrormovies.com has some specials on:

    100 Horror Films for $47.11

As well as sections of DVDs for:
    $1
    $4
    $6
    $8
    $10

dvdempire.com have some Halloween deals too.

    2 DVDs for $9.98

    2 DVDs for $14.98

    DVDs for $10.99

    DVDs for $17.99

Both ship internationally, though DVDEmpire seems to have a strict enough International Account setup process:

Due to the high rate of international fraud, DVD Empire has implemented a strict International customer verification process for your security. This is to help us ensure that no one has stolen your card or card information and is purchasing products without your knowledge.

We will need Photocopies, Scans or Digital Photos (JPEG or GIF Files only) of the following to verify your Credit Card information.

    * The front and back of your Credit Card. You should conceal the CVV2 Code and 7 or 8 digits of your Credit Card number on both the front and back (if listed) for security. But you must leave at least 8 digits visible for our verification process.

    * Your Credit Card billing statement with your Billing Address and your Bank or Credit Card companys letterhead CLEARLY visible.

Has anyone used them before? I wouldn't go to all that trouble if they aren't great with fast delivery etc.

the 100 dvds thing is interesting. Pitty they are on 12 double sided dvds. Yea rekon tis worth getting ? I dont recognise alot of the films.

I recognise a few of the older zombie features that are in the set, like 'White Zombie', 'King of the Zombies' and obviously 'Night of the Living Dead'. I've never seen the original of 'House on Haunted Hill' on the first set.

The second set, I'd again only know a few of the titles, 'Driller Killer' stands out among the rest.

I'm not sure I'd get them 'cos any of them I would want to see, the same site has copies for $0.75c, so there's little point in getting the lot (on double-sided discs) for a lot more!

What people should relaly do is pick out individual dvd bargains and psot the links here. I'll post some later... It will act as a reccomendation and bargain all in one! :)

Hmmmmm, 100 for under $50. I be interested. They may be on 24 double sided discs but that's not so bad is it? Not that different from getting a film with no extra features. It is a good deal and many of those films are ones which you otherwise would never buy or see.

Looking on Play.com's offers I see:

The Blair Witch Project (w/ extras) - £5.99

    The Hole (w/ extras) - £5.99

    Christine - £5.99

And what's this? Is it? I think it is!

The Wicker Man - Special Edition (2 Discs) - £5.99
    • Disc One:
    • Original Theatrical Version of The Wicker Man (84 mins) with Dolby 5.1 soundtrack
    • Documentary: 'The Wicker Man Enigma' (35 mins)
    • Exclusive Christopher Lee interview (25 mins)
    • Theatrical trailer
    • TV spot
    • 3 Radio spot
    • Talent biographies
    • DVD-Rom downloadable pages from the original theatrical press brochure
    • Interactive menu
    • Scene access
    • Disc Two:
    • The Wicker Man - Director's Cut (99 mins)
    • Feature length audio commentary with Christopher Lee, Edward Woodward, Director Robin Hardy and moderated by Mark Kermode: a UK exclusive, recorded in December 2001
    • Interactive menu
    • Scene access

    At £5.99 that's a steal. Harvey Knowles couldn't do better. :)

I think that "Documentary: 'The Wicker Man Enigma'" may have been shown by C4 a few years ago, after a showing of The Wicker Man. Maybe it was a different docu. altogether but if it's the same one then it's very good.

Actually saw Don't Look Now for 4.99 in Virgin, I think (henry street, two doors up from Game Stop) at the weekend.

Golden Discs in the Stephen's Green Centre currently has the Anchor Bay 2 disc The Hills Have Eyes set for €8.95. The film isn't great, but for that price you get some really impressive extras... A great commentary by Craven, an hour long documentary on the making of the film and progress of his career (good companion to the Last House features...). Best of all is the documentary The American Nightmare, worth the price of admission alone...

Tower also have Cannibal Holocaust for about €16.99, upstairs and near the back.

I saw 'The Wicker Man' in Virgin in Blanchardstown last w/e for €9.99 or so -- I *think* it was the 2-disc edition, but may have only been a single disc edition.

    Black Christmas £7.99

I love 'Black Christmas', great 70s slasher. They're remaking it for 2006, hope they don't ruin it! Glen Morgan of Wong & Morgan (Final Destination, Space: Above & Beyond, The X-Files) is directing. The original is great though :)

Night of the Living Dead $3.88

    Great deal for the original.

Still trying to locate others that leap out @ me. I think I'll have to get the 'Land of the Dead' unrated director's cut :D

I know every one is quick to point out great online deals. But for those like me with out a credit card ( thank god mind you ) I was in Virgin the other day and was really impressed with their horror range and some of their prices were not bad. In fact i was impressed with all their prices for all types of movies and music. It seems retailers are slowly catching on that there are cheaper online places and trying to compete.

BTW while i was there i saw 2 Exorsist prequals. One was Exorsist the begining witch I saw in the cinema, and another one I hadent heard of... Exorsist the ..... something it had a tag line the prequal to exorcist. So witch one really is the prequal or are they both?

Dominion-Prequel to the Exorcist is the one you mean. They are both prequels but different versions (think its the first time this has happened). For the record this one seems to be better than the one that came out a year ago.

Actually people assumed it was going to be better because Renny Harlin made the other one. But no that it's out it would seem they are both pretty bad.

Still... They have all five in Tower for €30 which I might have to pick up.

I think that regular stores are so hard to predict with regards good pricing - I got a few TV shows in Virgin a while ago for under €30 a season (22 eps), but other sets are crazy expensive. It really depends on what they have plenty of stock of/what they're trying to get rid of etc.

Their music is the same -- sometimes new albums are €17.99, which isn't *too* bad, but other times new albums start @ €22.99. I won't even talk about HMV :)

I got Doom 3 on Xbox last week in Game for €35 (then found Dixons had it for €30), and it's not that old for a good price -- whereas on CDWOW it's still €50.

I generally prefer the better prices online, but there's nothing worse than getting something online then finding it cheaper on sale in a store that you could just take the DVD/CD home with you right then!

That being said, I do think Virgin is worth a look for Horror DVDs -- The Wicker Man is still cheap in there I believe.

I've always found Virgin to be quite good for DVD prices.

Warning to those who might get The Wickerman (2 Disc): There is something better. If you're not in to the whole showiness of the latter then I say just go for the £3.99 one.

Hmmmm, Black Christmas. I might like that. What kind of production value does it have? Are we talking crappy, Evil Dead level or fair enough, The Craft level? Is it truly good or just good for quirkiness?

Just realised how ****e HorrorMovies.com's delivery is. Pretty pricey for a not so great delivery time of max.: 7 days. Or a lower price for 4-6 weeks!

The production values are equal to that of 'Halloween' or anything of the period, though I think it's freakier and more disturbing than 'Halloween'. I think in terms of slasher/stalker movies, it's one of my favourites -- I don't want to oversell it and hype it too much, but I really enjoyed it. :)
