set up: dell pc 5000 series, dell laptop 2200 series, windows xp home edition, auto updates on for both machines, Zyxel 630 modem, Delll 2520 router and mcafee antivurs

IE6 on the laptop opens whatever home page you set it to but then goes no further, when you go in to task manager it says is it not responding, for some reason it appears twice in task manager. Adaware and Spybot dont show up any problems

Firefox on the laptop works no problem and the pc works no problem. unfortunately superquinns website does not work with Firefox!!!

anybody any ideas of what is causing IE6 to hang on the laptop, have posted here presuming that it has something to do with the wifi connection.although the connection is fine

i am not very clued up on computer stuff, i would be grateful if any responses could be tailored for a user!!
    thanks

Sorry, I've got nothing really to help you fix your problem. IE6 / Wxp problems are a bit of a bugger. I know it would be better to get it fixed but the damn thing is so integrated. "Uninstalling" IE in XP really just hides the icon.

Download OPERA instead. It works with most Internet Banking websites so it might be OK for Fergals site too. If it's too big a download it's usually free on PC magazine CDs.

Why is this in the wireless networking forum?

"anybody any ideas of what is causing IE6 to hang on the laptop, have posted here presuming that it has something to do with the wifi connection.although the connection is fine " .. obviously (??!)

    To the OP:
Download IE from microsoft.com and reinstall.
Have you tried a System Restore (XP) - this may work if you know when the computer was last working OK..

In particular, what part of the SuperQuinn website causes the hang (Or seems to)?

A complete reinstall may do the trick.. it's up to you.

    Whoops, didn't see that bit.

    pauld,
Try the network with a cable, rather than wireless.
As Karoma said, try a different browser - I doubt it has anything to do with it being wireless.

    S,
    He said:
"Firefox on the laptop works no problem and the pc works no problem. unfortunately superquinns website does not work with Firefox!!!"

So, to clarify everyone's stance pauld: It's pretty much agreed (Even by yourself) that this is not a wireless issue. (Reported to ask move to computers as it seems to be causing offence :))
It seems to be just IE / just the laptop...
so try the above and we can take it a step at a time..

thanks guys for your responses. i downloadded IE6 from micorsoft but the problem persists. strange , does this suggest that IE6 is not the problem?

when using firefox in superquinn's site, when you go to checkout, there is nothing in the basket, yet when looking in IE6 on the pc (which works fine) the basket shows all the items selected.

apologies for the unintended offence caused by me posting this thread in wireless

Sorry, my feckin' head is in the clouds today. I'm reading the words, but nothing's registering...as helpfully as a hole in a bucket.
    Ignore me.

Still hard to determine - it could suggest an adware or firewall is blocking..or it could jus tbe that IE is still using the previous config.
when using firefox in superquinn's site, when you go to checkout, there is nothing in the basket, yet when looking in IE6 on the pc (which works fine) the basket shows all the items selected.
i don't want to register so I may get this wrong:
When you "order" or "add to basket" -it will typically do so by creating a file on the computer which you are using (Called a "cookie" - apologies if this sounds condescending..just making sure..)
The fact that there is nothing in the basket would suggest that the cookie is not being created or is being removed (This is commonly done to prevent other people/sites looking at what you've been doing..)
Check your Privacy settings in IE: Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy (What is currently set to?) -> Lower the setting.
    Restart IE.
If this still doesn't resolve the issue - check security software for Privacy/cookie settings and check that they allow this behavious.
apologies for the unintended offence caused by me posting this thread in wireless
an honest mistake; a mod will move it to a more appropriate forum when they get a chance.

thanks for that - i will check the cookie option in firefox when i get home - interestingly superquinn help suggested the same thing as you re the cookies.

if i get superquinn to work correctly in firefox then my IE6 problem will no longer be an issue - i simplywont need to use it again yippee!
