Why burn the books??

I've got something to consider. You know how bible belt America [and other places too] can be, burning books they deem 'evil' and corrupting. We all can see why The Dark materials could be and are burned [great books though :) ] with their 'heretical' themes [I wonder what they make of evangelion? ] but does it not seem a tad................em............... excessive to burn Harry Potter books as a forefront of Devil worship. I've tried to understand the point but it just seems ludricous to me. Where does Harry Potter contain a word of religion, never mind Satanic themes? :( If you were going to force it you could view Lord Voldemort as the point of all evil [and by extension for those willling to follow this] a figure of evil and therefore Satanic rituals as a practitioner of Dark magic. Magic as devil worship being the centre of their P.O.V.
Actuallly, I'm surprised as I always thought that the books had the straightforward morality of the majority of childrens books with the [eventual] triumph of the forces of good over evil.

I wonder about it, then realise these are the kind of people who voted George Bush into power twice in a row.

I despise the idea of burning any kind of book. Shame on them!

So true, So true. I just can't get my head around those people. I'm more of a flying spagetthi monster person myself :D. And I completely agree. The burning of any book [hey, historians shopuld be able to study satanic works for retrospectives sake] is evil, medieval and not to mention the waste of some perfectly good recyclable paper

You see, these people believe in the devil as a literal being. They think that he is there plotting the downfall of mankind with tricks and lies. They see Harry Potter, as well as countless other works of fantasy, as part of the devil's charming lie designed to ensnare the souls of the unwary and over-curious. Therefore they feel that to ignore the devil's work is to abandon the souls of their brethren (or maybe potential brethren) to him.

That doesn't make them any less laughable of course.

Incidentally I found out today a comic that I'm a fan of, W.I.T.C.H, is the latest thing to fall foul of the right-wing nutters.
Here they are. Don't they look the picture of pure evil?:

These are the same people that burned Pinocchio videos (the Disney ones like) because there was a Blue Fairy in the story, which of course glorifies magic and sorcery and is likely to turn unwary innocent children into hardcore baby-slaughtering, blood-drinking, devil-worshipping Satanists. I mean, isn't the connection obvious?!
(and anyway, isn't it dangerous to burn videos?)

They are a bunch of dictators, forcing there views on others, they really do go too far sometimes.

I know It's mad popular in Europe. I keep reading spoilers from people who are way ahead of Ireland in the comics! :)

The people who are protesting against W.I.T.C.H in America have never liked Disney. They accuse the company of being "anti-family" - whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. Right-wing nutters boil my blood!

Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

God declares that whitchcraft of any sort is evil and forbidden many times in the bible, books like Harry Potter glorify whitchcraft to children, so it's fair enough that any true Christian wouldn't want them to reach children. This is just one of the many reasons I think christianity is so silly.

For lot's more fundamentalist bull, check out this site, there's disney bashing a plenty!

Phew! As I was reading the start of your post I thought you were expressing your own opinion! Yikes!

That site is interesting if nuts. I especially liked this:
Even the relationship of the king and his evil brother draws attention to the pagan suggestion that Jesus and Satan were brothers.
Pagans don't beleive in Satan! As the writers of the site admit themselves later. I liked the line about "wild eyed ecologists" too. How do they expect anyone to take them seriously when they use language like that?
Anyway, thanks for the link. I'm sure this will give me hours of entertainment!:D

    *screech*
Children have become the prime target of deception and demonism in preparation for the New Age religion and the one world rule of Lucifer. Anyone who doubts that there is a conspiracy to brainwash the next generation and prepare them to receive the coming delusion are either deceived themselves, blind to spiritual realities or a part of the deception. Almost every toy, television series, comic books or items targeted for the young generation is steeped In occultic practices and psychic phenomenon.

Parents, grandparents or guardians must learn that the world system is under the control of the I Angel of Light, Lucifer, and draws a sharp line between darkness and light. There is no natural zone any longer. In the past, especially here in America, almost every institution that affected our society had principles to live by and to control their methods and philosophy. Traditions were steeped in Judeo Christian ideals and no business was likely to succeed that was adverse to these principles. This is no longer true. Presently, there is an overt effort throughout our society, not only to disregard those great traditions but to supplant them with liberal and humanistic ideas. Liberalism and humanism always end up in bondage to vile habits and the spirits of witchcraft. The rise of homosexuality and lesbianism is directly tied to these trends and always follows liberal, humanistic policies that disregards genuine spirituality. Mankind cannot live and maintain balance in a Godless vacuum. To reject true Biblical concepts is to eventually replace them with strange religious ideas.
What is this quotation about? I's about The Lion King, of all things. I read it just to clarify where in the film they glorify homosexuality - and it's because they used Elton John's songs in the film. Well now it's obvious to me, any child that hears a song written by a homosexual is going to get subliminal urges to practice homosexuality themselves... Right? Stupid fundamentalists

It's because of these two as well. The lads who did the voice acting for Timon and Pumba apparently said that they were Disney's first gay characters, which sounds to me like they were making a joke. But if they were playing them as a gay couple, I think it's cute. They make a sweet couple.

There's another line on that site where some guy from the Disney company said it was a nice, supportive workplace for a gay person. I can't beleive they were using his quote to illustrate how bad they think Disney is! Some people are so backward that they deserve to pitied!
